A Family Ticket for Inverurie Panto 2022: Dick Whittington Competition closes 10th December 2022 We have teamed up with Inverurie Panto to give one lucky family (2 adults and 2 children) tickets to the Evening (7pm) Show on Monday 19th December 2022 performance! We spoke to Keith Donaldson, Producer of Inverurie’s famous Panto to find out what’s in store this year. Keith told us that each year the creative team behind the Inverurie Panto try to come up with new and interesting ways to keep the show fresh, and this year’s production of Dick Whittington is no exception. The part of Dick Whittington’s faithful Cat “Garioch” will be played by new cast member Emmah Chibesakunda. However, there is a twist in the tail – Emmah will be operating a puppet, in the style of the hit Broadway show Avenue Q! Producer Keith said, “I reached out to London based Puppeteer Sue Dacre who agreed to travel to Aberdeenshire and coach Emmah in how to operate the puppet. Sue’s extensive list of credits include working on films such as the Muppet Christmas Carol, Labyrinth and the Little Shop of Horrors. Producer He added, “we had a wonderful few days working with Sue – she is a fantastic puppeteer with a huge amount of experience working with many different puppets. It was great to hear stories of her working with the greats such as Jim and Brian Henson (of Muppet fame) and Frank Oz, the creative behind Yoda from Star Wars.” Sue enjoyed her time in Aberdeen - “I had such a good time, I really enjoyed working with Emmah and Directors Victoria Cowan and Craig Pike. I’m looking forward to coming back to seeing the finished product”. Sue will be back to give Emmah some further instruction before the show opens in December. Emmah was surprised at how many aspects there were to the puppet, “you have to concentrate on the movement of the puppet, lip syncing and eye contact, all whilst remembering my lines, singing and dancing – I’m really relishing the challenge!” Emmah is a Psychology student studying at Aberdeen University by day and a member of the Aberdeen University Acapella Society, The Killer Quines. For the puppet itself, Sue put the team in touch with Andy Heath, one of the founding members of Talk to the Hand, Puppets and Puppetry for Television and Film. Andy loved the design of Garioch and agreed to make a custom build especially for the Inverurie Panto. “We’re hoping we can provide a great character for the panto – although I am struggling to pronounce the Cat’s name - Garioch”. Since starting out as a swing performer on Doctor Dolittle The Musical in 1998, he has carved out an extraordinary career as one of the UK’s most trusted puppet coordinators. Working with everyone from Henson to The Gorillaz, Andy has created, originated and operated hundreds of characters, each with their own inimitable energy and style. If you’d like to see Emmah, Garioch and the rest of the Panto Cast, the show opens on Thursday 8th December and runs until Christmas.
