Raring2go! BACK TO SCHOOL - HOMEWORK TIPS 4 raring2go.co.uk Homework SOS: Top Tips from the experts It's easier to do homework when your brain is ready! Try starting when you're in the right frame of mind, for example, after a snack and a rest, not when you’re tired or hungry. Good energy levels will help you concentrate, think clearly, and finish faster - leaving more time to play and relax afterwards. Forest Preparatory School To help with time management, we use the "Pomodoro Technique" 15-20 minutes of focused work, then a 5-minute break. We use the kitchen timer to make homework feel like a game with clear start/ finish times. Jo, Raring2go! Altrincham & Sale Editor Your brain remembers colours so we use different coloured pens for different subjects to help my son remember things. Kerry, Raring2go! Sheffield Editor Where is the best place to do homework? Somewhere where your child can focus, but particularly with primary age pupils sit where it’s easy for them to ask for help or chat about what they’re doing (a kitchen table is ideal for this). Step Up Tuition can give homework help as well as help improve grades and confidence. Step Up Tuition Establish a calm, consistent homework routine. Break tasks into chunks, encourage independence, and make learning fun with creative tools. Celebrate small wins to boost confidence. These habits promote focus, resilience, and a love for learning. Sometimes school homework alone is not enough for your child to reach their true potential. If you want your child to work ahead of school curriculum then consider enrolling them to the Kumon programme. Kumon Cool Kids Use Cool Tools. Use smart tools like ChatGPT, Photomath, and Khan Academy to make homework easier and more fun. Explore topics on BBC Bitesize, Duolingo, or National Geographic Kids. Take breaks, stay active, and learn ahead. Work smart, stay well - be the cool kid who aces homework with ease! Code Ninjas, Trafford My kids like using voice recording apps to practice spelling words or times tables, then they can play it back and check if they got the answers correct. Emily, Raring2go! Raring2go! BACK TO SCHOOL 10 raring2go.co.uk Little Page Turners Meet our winners! Throughout the Spring and Summer, our readers have been sharing their favourite books with us as part of our Little Page Turners book review competition. We're thrilled to reveal the book reviews from our two winners... Owl Babies Author: Martin Waddell Review from Ffion, Age 7 "Ffion's favourite book is Owl Babies by Martin Waddell" "I love reading it because owls are my favourite animals. I have an owl teddy that goes everywhere with me. I really like Bill because he is the smallest. The mummy owl is nice because she is fluffy". The Adventures of Captain Underpants Author: Dav Pilkey. Review from Rory, Age 6 "The Adventures of Captain Underpants is a really funny book all about a headmaster who is a superhero who wears only his underpants and a cape! George and Harold are two very funny schoolboys who bring brilliant pranks into school, making life really hard for Mr Krupp. In this book they transform Mr Krupp into Captain Underpants before having to defeat Dr Diaper, who is who is trying to take over the world with his robot inventions. He has stolen a crystal which they try to get back in a hilarious way. This book is full of slapstick humour guaranteed to make people of all ages laugh." "George and Harold are really funny because they are so silly. They’d get into lots of trouble if they went to my school!’ Thank you to our sponsors:

Brownies (ages 7–10) take on bigger challenges, working together and trying new activities. From first-time camping to learning life skills, Brownies discover they can achieve more than they thought possible. Guides (ages 10–14) are encouraged to find their voice and choose their own adventures, whether outdoor challenges, international trips or leading projects that matter to them. It's a time for building friendships, confidence and leadership. Rangers (ages 14–18) develop independence and shape their future through high-level challenges, community volunteering and international representation opportunities. It's a stepping stone to young leadership and gaining skills for university or job applications. None of this could happen without our amazing volunteers. Girlguiding in Sale & Altrincham is powered by people of all backgrounds who give their time and energy to support local girls.
