From the moment your little one first snuggles up with you to look at picture books, they're building crucial skills that will help them throughout their lives. Studies show that children who read regularly do better at school across all subjects – not just English. It boosts their vocabulary, helps them understand different perspectives, and sparks creativity in ways that screens simply can't match. But it's not just about academic success. Reading together is a brilliant way to bond with your children and chat about all sorts of topics that come up in stories. Whether it's dealing with playground friendships or exploring magical kingdoms, books can help children understand and navigate their daily experiences. Don't worry if your child isn't naturally drawn to books. Turn to our 'Step inside a Book' feature on pages 12 and 13, where you'll find fantastic local theatre shows, interactive story trails, and hands-on activities that bring their favourite stories to life. It's amazing how a bit of magic can transform reading from a 'should do' into a 'want to do'! Meet our sponsor: The Altrincham Garrick Playhouse has been at the heart of our community since 1914, entertaining audiences with exceptional theatre for all ages. We believe that stories—whether on stage or in print—ignite imagination, nurture creativity, and foster a lifelong love of learning. That’s why we’re proud to sponsor Little Page Turners, a wonderful initiative celebrating the joy of reading. Little Page Turners is a great way for children to explore stories, share their favourite books, and discover new ones. This year, the theatre is bringing two well-loved children's books to the stage: The Worst Witch at Easter and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for October half term. These productions offer a fun and engaging experience for the whole family. Join us in supporting the enjoyment of stories—whether in a book or at the theatre. We look forward to seeing you.
