Raring2go! ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS 4 raring2go.co.uk This year marks a very special double celebration. The Raring2go! brand proudly turns 21, and I'm celebrating my own milestone – 10 years as editor of your Altrincham & Sale magazine since taking over the business in 2016. What started back in 2005 as a simple idea has grown into a much-loved family brand, and when the Altrincham & Sale edition launched in 2007, it quickly became trusted by parents, carers, schools and local businesses alike. Our aim has always remained the same: to bring together the very best activities, events, classes, days out and family-friendly services in one easy place. Over my decade as editor, I've had the privilege of supporting hundreds of local businesses and helping families plan brilliant days out. It warms my heart that some of those businesses from 2016 are still featuring in these pages today – a testament to the loyalty that makes this community so special. As family life has changed, so have we – and none of it would have been possible without you. Here's to 21 years of Raring2go! – and to many more adventures ahead. Remember 2016? • Sale's streets were taken over by life-size fibreglass elephants, giraffes and penguins as part of the wonderful Sale Art Zoo - decorated by local primary school children to celebrate Sale's very own George Mottershead, founder of Chester Zoo. • Altrincham General Hospital was being demolished, making way for something new. • Altrincham Market House had just opened its doors (well, in 2014) • Pep Guardiola arrived at Manchester City full of promise. • Altrincham FC were navigating an uncertain future. • Justin Beiber was spotted playing ice hockey in Altrincham • The Brexit referendum had the whole country glued to the news. •Pokémon GO had parents wandering round parks with their phones out, catching Pokémon with their kids. Simpler times. And in 2016, Raring2go! Altrincham & Sale got a new editor. Some things were clearly built to last! A double celebration: 21 years of Raring2go! and my 10 years as Editor!
Raring2go! BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY 5 Profitable Part-Time Business for Sale Have you ever dreamed of running your own business, making your own decisions and taking control of your working life to fit around your family? After 10 wonderful years, I am now looking for a new owner to take over the Altrincham & Sale edition of Raring2go! magazine and website - a well-established local business with a loyal customer base. Why This Business Works: • Profitable part-time income • Strong forward bookings • Home-based with flexible hours around family life • Be there for school runs, sports days and holidays • Low overheads My Story: During my years as Editor I've enjoyed discovering new places to visit with my family, reviewing shows at the theatre and trying out new activities with my children. By working for myself, I've been lucky enough to build a career around my family's needs. As my children are now older, I feel it's time to start a new chapter. I'm looking for another local, passionate parent to take over this business I've built with care. Don't worry though, I'm not going anywhere until I find the right person to hand over to. What You'll Need: • No previous experience necessary • An interest in the local community and what's on for families • A self starter with an eye for detail and a can-do attitude • Enjoy building relationships with local businesses and attractions The Details: While Raring2go! means you work for yourself, you're part of a franchise network with systems and support in place. I will provide full handover support to help you succeed. Next Steps: If you're interested in learning more - including full financial details, the current franchise agreement terms, and an honest conversation about both opportunities and challenges - please get in touch. Call Jo on 07766 991935 or email me at altrincham@raring2go.co.uk Do you dream of owning your own business?

Raring2go! HOLIDAY CLUBS (Spoiler: It's Even Better Than You Think) Ever wondered what your kids actually do all day at holiday club? Sure, you get the usual "it was gwwood" when you pick them up, but here's what's really going on behind those doors. While you're answering emails and sitting in meetings, your seven-year-old has become a parkour expert, built a den that would put Kevin McCallister to shame, and made a best friend who shares their obsession with collecting shiny rocks. Your nine-year-old? They've just won a dodgeball tournament and discovered they're actually quite good at cooking. The Magic Formula The best holiday clubs have cracked a code that even schools struggle with: keeping children engaged without it feeling like work. There's no curriculum, no tests, no pressure. Just pure, unstructured fun with enough supervision to keep everyone safe and enough freedom to let imaginations run wild. Children get to choose their own adventures. Want to spend all morning making slime? Go for it. Prefer to be outside come rain or shine? Sorted. This autonomy is surprisingly rare in children's structured lives, and they absolutely thrive on it. The Real Benefits (Beyond Childcare) Yes, holiday clubs solve the "what do I do with them for two weeks" problem, but they're doing something more valuable too. Your child is learning to navigate social situations without you hovering nearby. They're building resilience when activities don't go to plan. They're discovering new interests you'd never have thought to introduce them to. And those friendships they're forming? They're often with children from different schools, different year groups, different backgrounds – expanding their world in ways that classroom friendships rarely do. The Confidence Factor Watch your child after a few days at a good holiday club. They walk a bit taller. They're more independent. They've got stories to tell and skills to show off. That kid who was nervous on day one? By day three, they're leading the group. Finding Your Fit Not all clubs are created equal, of course. Some specialise in sports, others in creativity, some in outdoor adventure. The key is matching the club to your child's personality – or better yet, finding one that gently pushes them outside their comfort zone. 14 raring2go.co.uk What really happens at holiday club?

BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FAMILIES Brilliant age-appropriate books reviewed by a growing army of brilliant junior reviewers www.raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! would like to thank LoveReading4Kids, for this wonderful review. LoveReading4Kids, the UK’s leading children’s book recommendation website, is now a bookstore with social purpose, where 25% of the cover price can be donated to a school to buy books. Because books change lives. Buy a Book. Support a School. Make a Difference. To buy this book visit: www.lovereading4kids.co.uk This book hooks you in from the very start. Fans of comicstyle books will love this and won't want to put it down. Chicken Hill is a place where Ferdy, Gripper and Tink (who aren't chickens), live and they have to try to save the world from UFO's, Zombie Cactus' and escape the clutches of King Frog. Their adventures take them as far as Mexico where they get caught in a battle and find weird things. My favourite story was Attack of the Zombie Cactus because it made me laugh out loud, especially the bit where they put slime on the gnome. The illustrations are great and give great details so the characters almost seem real. I would definitely recommend this book and I can't wait to read the next book. Big thanks to Seth, age 10 for this fantastic review! “ I just couldn't see how it could get any better, but it did. A must for everyone's book collection “ Raring2go! TUTORS AND EDUCATION

Raring2go! TUTORS AND EDUCATION 23 Whether you're choosing your child's first primary school or navigating the leap to secondary, open days are your chance to see beyond the glossy prospectus and discover what a school is really like. Here's how to make them count. Do Your Homework First Before you set foot through the gates, check the school's latest Ofsted report and exam results online. Read parent reviews (but take extremely glowing or scathing comments with a pinch of salt). This background knowledge means you can focus your questions on things that truly matter to your family rather than information readily available online. Look Beyond the Tour Yes, listen to the head teacher's speech and admire the new science labs, but pay attention to the small details too. Are displays of children's work current or gathering dust? Do staff greet each other warmly? How do older pupils interact with younger ones? Are the toilets clean and well-maintained? These seemingly minor observations often reveal a school's true character. Ask the Right Questions Don't be afraid to ask challenging questions. How does the school handle bullying? What's their approach to children who need extra support or those who need stretching? What happens at lunchtimes for children who find the playground overwhelming? How do they communicate with parents? The quality and honesty of answers matters as much as the content. Involve Your Child For secondary schools especially, your child's gut feeling counts. Do they look comfortable? Can they imagine themselves here? Sometimes children pick up on things we miss. Trust Your Instincts You can compare facilities and statistics until you're blue in the face, but data only tells part of the story. Pay attention to how you feel walking around the school. Does it feel warm and welcoming? Can you picture your child thriving here? Do the staff seem genuinely passionate about what they do? Your intuition, combined with what you've observed and learned, is a powerful tool in making this important decision. The perfect school doesn't exist, but the right school for your child absolutely does. School Open Days: Your Essential Guide to Making the Right Choice
