10 easy ways to take control of We’re all having to watch the pennies at the minute, so here are a few Use a thermostat or heating programmer rather than switching your heating on/off manually. Close internal doors to keep the heat where you want it. An incredible amount of heat can be lost through doors left open. Only fill the kettle with as much water as is needed. A kettle uses an incredible amount of energy each time it boils. Dry clothes slowly on an airer in a well ventilated space, or outdoors, to save on tumble dryer costs. If you have curtains above where a radiator is positioned, then tuck them behind radiators to keep the heat inside the room.
your energy bills this winter! w tips to help you reduce the amount of energy you use at home… c o 18 Set your thermostat to 18-21 degrees Celsius. A reduction of just 1º can save around £80 a year on household bills. Draughtproof your doors and your windows to reduce heat loss and lower heating bills. This is a very cost effective measure to take. Wash clothes at 30ºC. A simple thing like a 10ºC reduction in temperature can almost half the energy costs of a normal load wash. Make use of a slow cooker. They are much more efficient than a conventional oven and the food tastes great too. Defrost your freezer to save money. It’s a job no one likes doing but a regualr defrost of your freezer can make it more efficient.

30 raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! Board games are a great way to spend quality family time together. A firm favourite in our house was Monopoly where it seemed everyone was just focused on opening hotels on Park lane and Mayfair! Another popular one when we were kids was Operation which literally caused us to jump out of our skin when the buzzer sounded. Times and games have moved on and there’s so much more choice these days that it’s very hard to keep up. Thankfully though, for many years now, the annual ‘Games Day’ has been a great way to celebrate games and get to know some new ones which have emerged... in short, its a great excuse to enjoy games and gaming. Originally, Games Day was the name given to an annual gaming convention that first took place in 1975. It was sponsored by the well known British game production company Games Workshop and it usually took place in Birmingham. In 1975 the games convention in August got cancelled, so Games Workshop decided to fill in the gap by having its own convention. After a few delays, and much frantic planning it finally held its event on December 20 at Seymour Hall in London. The company, which started out producing more traditional games like backgammon, later moved on to fantasy games like Warhammer. At the time, the convention was groundbreaking, since there were very few outlets for gamers to come together and play together. The event, naturally contributed to the growth of the gaming scene in the U.K. Soon enough, similar conventions started showing up all over the U.S. and became very popular. They were clearly the best single platform to showcase both gamers and gaming companies. Now you know how Games Day first began, surely the best way to honor this day is to play some games and have lots of fun doing so. Games Day is an ideal time to sit with your friends or family for carefree fun and lots of laughter! We dare say there’ll be some fierce competition too, but this is what it’s all about. Games Day is the perfect time to get together with as many people as you wish. To choose your favourite game or games and to play them, keeping all your guests happily entertained. You must remember, it doesn’t have to be just once a year either! you can make it a regular catch up with guaranteed fun! Considering they are a fun break from routine, games have been around in some form or the other throughout our civilization. After all, games sharpen our problem-solving abilities, our goal focused strategies, focus and concentration, coordination and communication skills, social interaction and multi-tasking. You may not realise all this when playing but the benefits of a good game can be felt for a long time after the actual game has ended. So what are you waiting for? Dust off your board games, shuffle a desk of cards or fire up your PS4... it matters not what you play but that you play and that you enjoy what you play too. What games do you most enjoy? Board games, card games, or maybe video games? Whatever game is your favourite, this is the day to play it and have fun! Today, let’s celebrate all things gaming!
