Duncan Rutherford has been offering daytime choir sessions to people like Pam for a number of years and he’s pleasantly surprised that they are now even rivalling some of his evening classes for popularity. Duncan says “It’s a wide demographic; we have retirees, we have those who work at home and fancy a change of scenery, and there are others who will come for a sing before they do the school pick-up. It’s a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere in our daytime classes and it offers a chance for those who can’t make an evening session the opportunity to get involved.” Afternoon classes are offered at 1pm – 2.30pm every Tuesday in Hertford and on Wednesdays in Bishop’s Stortford, with the first session completely free. In Bishop’s Stortford and Hertford, communities are coming together to sing, to learn, to laugh and to belong. The Somewhere 2 Sing choir sing popular music in a non-audition, informal weekly session and this week’s song, Perfect by Ed Sheeran, is going down a storm! Anyone can do it and yet anyone involved, regardless of experience, can often find themselves taking part in rather extraordinary things. With opportunities such as tours to Disneyland Paris and Cardiff, busking in Covent Garden, recording an EP at Abbey Road Studios or a flashmob with hundreds at Kings Cross Station, we can certainly understand why some members get the bug and never want to stop singing here! “It’s fun, it’s exuberant and each class goes so fast because we’re having such a good time” says Pam, who’s been attending the Bishop’s Stortford afternoon choir for almost 5 years. Pam has two children, works from home and loves that she can fit everything in and have time for choir each week. “It’s the highlight of my week” Pam continues, “I do all the performances, join in with as much as I can and really enjoy the giggles we all have… And I get to keep my evenings free, it’s great!”
