A MAGICAL WINTER QUEST AWAITS AT FARNHAM MALTINGS Raring2go! WHAT’S ON & WHERE TO GO This Christmas, Farnham Maltings invites audiences into a world of wonder with The Snowsmith, by theatre company Half A String, running from 12th – 24th December. This enchanting tale promises to be a festive highlight for families of all ages. At the heart of the story is Eira, a fearless young inventor who dares to believe in legends of soft white snow. Determined to bring it back to her world, she sets out on a daring quest. Along the way, she faces a fearsome whale, ventures through an abandoned mine, encounters herds of mischievous goats, and makes friends in the most unlikely places. But the greatest question of all remains: will it snow in Thawmor this winter? The Snowsmith is brought to life through inventive design, mesmerising puppetry, and music that draws audiences straight into the adventure. Children and adults alike will be swept up in a story that celebrates courage, imagination, and the power of community. This year, the magic begins before you even step inside. The entrance to Farnham Maltings will be transformed into the forest and village of Thawmor, immersing audiences in the world of the story from the very first moment. Expect lantern-lit pathways, wintry details, and a festive atmosphere that makes arriving at the show part of the adventure itself. Farnham Maltings’ Executive Producer & Deputy CEO Katy Potter shared her excitement for the production: “This winter we are thrilled to be welcoming Half A String with their production of The Snowsmith. It’s a truly original tale that combines everything we love about theatre - imagination, music, and a shared sense of joy. Transforming the Maltings into the world of Thawmor will make this a unique and magical experience for our audiences, and we cannot wait to share it with families this Christmas.” Special events add even more sparkle. On selected evenings, families can enjoy cosy Pyjama Night performances—wear your favourite pyjamas, sip a hot chocolate from the café, and enjoy a truly festive evening. On selected weekends throughout December, children can also take part in Snowsmiththemed puppet workshops, making their very own owl to take home (booking in advance required). Perfect for audiences aged three and up, The Snowsmith is more than a show, it’s an invitation to step into a wintery legend and celebrate the season together. 12th – 24th December Tickets £14.50 – £20 at www.farnhammaltings.com/ the-snowsmith 19 Raring2go! It’s important for everyone to know what vaccines they can have, when to have them, why they are important and what to do if any have been missed. You can ‘catch up’ on most missed vaccines, whatever your age. Vaccine preventable infections can have a huge impact on your child’s life and the rest of your family. They can miss out on school due to time spent unwell, be hospitalised, and there can sometimes be devastating consequences. Declining uptake of some vaccines means that extremely infectious diseases like measles and whooping cough are spreading more easily, increasing risk to unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children. The same trends are seen across Europe and globally. Avoidable infections will increase if this continues, including in adults who do not ‘catch up’. What vaccines are advised? See www.nhs.uk/nhs-vaccinations-andwhen-to-have-them/ for recommended routine vaccines across all age groups, including seasonal vaccines. Are your child’s vaccines up to date? • Check their Red Book • Check with your GP practice Find out about vaccines and the diseases they protect against For trusted independent information about vaccines, how they work, what is in them and common side effects see https://vaccineknowledge.ox.ac.uk/home How to ‘catch up’ • Contact your GP (all ages) • The Surrey School Aged Immunisation Service deliver all immunisations due when your child is at school (and if they are home schooled) and can also advise on community catch up clinics: https://surreychildandfamily.co.uk/ services/immunisations/ Rachel Wigglesworth Director of Public Health (interim) Surrey County Council

NURTURING LEARING THROUGH PURPOSEFUL SIMPLICITY AND JOYFUL PLAY In a world that often moves too fast, we believe children need opportunities to slow down, play, connect with nature, and explore the world through touch, movement, imagination, and inquiry. St Catherine’s Pre-School offers just that, an environment where overstimulation gives way to calm. Here, children engage in purposeful play, make meaningful connections with the world around them, participate in hands-on learning, and experience the joy of creativity, all while engaging with sustainable, natural resources that encourage exploration and imaginative problemsolving. At the heart of our approach is a commitment to real play; open-ended, joyful, and deeply engaging experiences that foster cognitive, emotional, and physical development. By prioritising everyday authentic items, sustainable materials such as natural, tactile objects and focusing on connection over conformity, we aim to offer families something different: a warm, home-from-home setting where children are seen, heard, and deeply valued as they play, explore, problem-solve, and create their own learning journey. Nestled in the beautiful Surrey Hills, our Pre-School benefits from a setting rich in natural inspiration: a cottage garden, the enchanting Little Woods criss-crossed by nature corridors developed through our partnership with Surrey Wildlife Trust. Inside and outside, we made conscious choices to move away from plastic toys and pre-defined resources. Instead, we have embraced authentic, open-ended materials that encourage children to think creatively, play collaboratively, and make deep connections with the world around them. Our learning spaces are intentionally calm, flexible, and filled with texture, natural light, and materials that invite exploration. We have created a learning environment where creativity thrives through real play powered by curiosity, shaped by children’s ideas, and fuelled by natural, sustainable, and open-ended resources. Whether indoors in our thoughtfully curated classrooms or outdoors in our woodland and garden spaces, every part of the setting is an invitation to play, imagine, explore, and create. And we have seen remarkable outcomes: children who communicate more clearly, collaborate more easily, take risks more confidently, and express themselves more freely. And we have achieved it without screens or gadgets - just the trust to let them lead, and the right materials to support them on that journey. In a world full of noise, we offer something beautiful: A space to wonder. A space to create. A space to play—authentically, sustainably, and joyfully. Raring2go! RUGBY WORLD CUP 2025 KICKSTART HER PASSION: HOW THE 2025 WOMEN’S RUGBY WORLD CUP CAN INSPIRE YOUR DAUGHTER The 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup is more than just a tournament—it’s a global celebration of skill, teamwork, and determination. Hosted in England from August 22 to September 27, this year’s competition features 16 teams, including England, New Zealand, Canada, and France, competing across eight iconic venues, culminating in a grand final at Twickenham Stadium. The tournament brings together the best female rugby players in the world, showcasing athleticism, strategy, and incredible sportsmanship. Watching talented women play at the highest level shows girls that rugby is not just for boys. The speed, skill, and teamwork on display can be inspiring for young viewers, encouraging them to imagine themselves on the field. Beyond physical skills, the tournament highlights resilience, determination, and the importance of working together toward a goal— lessons that are invaluable for girls both on and off the pitch. PARENTS CAN HELP TURN THAT INSPIRATION INTO ACTION WITH PRACTICAL STEPS: 1. Watch together: Stream matches or highlights at home. Pause to talk about what’s happening on the field—how players pass, tackle safely, or communicate with teammates. 2. Celebrate role models: Share the stories of players—their dedication, training routines, and challenges they’ve overcome. Seeing women succeed at rugby helps girls understand that they, too, can achieve big goals. 3. Try it at home: Introduce basic skills like passing, catching, running with a ball, or simple tag rugby drills in the backyard. Keep it playful and safe. 4. Join local sessions: Many schools and clubs offer beginner-friendly programs for girls, including mini rugby or tag rugby. Rugbytots (rugbytots.co.uk) provides structured sessions designed specifically for young children, focusing on fun, movement, and teamwork. 5. Connect with friends: Encourage your daughter to attend sessions with friends or make new ones at the club. Rugby is not only a physical sport—it’s a social one, where children learn cooperation and build friendships. 6. Set achievable goals: Celebrate progress, not just victories. Recognizing small achievements, like learning a new skill or improving confidence, helps girls stay motivated and enjoy the game. 7. By linking the excitement of the Women’s Rugby World Cup to real-world opportunities, parents can help girls see rugby as an inclusive, accessible sport where they can challenge themselves, have fun, and develop important life skills. This year’s tournament isn’t just about champions on the field—it’s an invitation for girls to grab a rugby ball, join a team, and begin their own rugby journey. The passion, camaraderie, and joy of the game are waiting to inspire the next generation of female players. 16 September - 31 October KUMON OPENS A WORLD OF POSSIBILITIES Farnborough - 07599 860805 Fleet - 07498 243071 Frimley - 07473 356444 Terms and conditions apply.
