NURTURING LEARING THROUGH PURPOSEFUL SIMPLICITY AND JOYFUL PLAY In a world that often moves too fast, we believe children need opportunities to slow down, play, connect with nature, and explore the world through touch, movement, imagination, and inquiry. St Catherine’s Pre-School offers just that, an environment where overstimulation gives way to calm. Here, children engage in purposeful play, make meaningful connections with the world around them, participate in hands-on learning, and experience the joy of creativity, all while engaging with sustainable, natural resources that encourage exploration and imaginative problemsolving. At the heart of our approach is a commitment to real play; open-ended, joyful, and deeply engaging experiences that foster cognitive, emotional, and physical development. By prioritising everyday authentic items, sustainable materials such as natural, tactile objects and focusing on connection over conformity, we aim to offer families something different: a warm, home-from-home setting where children are seen, heard, and deeply valued as they play, explore, problem-solve, and create their own learning journey. Nestled in the beautiful Surrey Hills, our Pre-School benefits from a setting rich in natural inspiration: a cottage garden, the enchanting Little Woods criss-crossed by nature corridors developed through our partnership with Surrey Wildlife Trust. Inside and outside, we made conscious choices to move away from plastic toys and pre-defined resources. Instead, we have embraced authentic, open-ended materials that encourage children to think creatively, play collaboratively, and make deep connections with the world around them. Our learning spaces are intentionally calm, flexible, and filled with texture, natural light, and materials that invite exploration. We have created a learning environment where creativity thrives through real play powered by curiosity, shaped by children’s ideas, and fuelled by natural, sustainable, and open-ended resources. Whether indoors in our thoughtfully curated classrooms or outdoors in our woodland and garden spaces, every part of the setting is an invitation to play, imagine, explore, and create. And we have seen remarkable outcomes: children who communicate more clearly, collaborate more easily, take risks more confidently, and express themselves more freely. And we have achieved it without screens or gadgets - just the trust to let them lead, and the right materials to support them on that journey. In a world full of noise, we offer something beautiful: A space to wonder. A space to create. A space to play—authentically, sustainably, and joyfully.
