Raring2go! TOP TIP Make an egg pin drying board out of foam board and pins, push pins all the way through to the other side then turn the board over and pierce the egg with the pin, the eggs will dry with no marks on them! Chuck the chocolate eggs and go for the real thing this year! Cultures round the world have been painting eggs of all sorts as part of their Springtime celebrations for centuries. If your children are very young it’s probably best to use hard-boiled eggs and crayons, stickers or the age-old method of vinegar and food colouring to do the job – if you’ve used non-toxic materials, you can always use them up in sandwiches later. Hard-boiled eggs are also perfect for stashing around your home and garden for an egg hunt. If your children are older, or you just fancy a bit of a challenge, try preparing your eggs the traditional way, by blowing out the yolk. It’s easy and fun to colour hard-boiled eggs and you can use items you probably already have in your kitchen. Age Guideline: 3 years and up Time Required: 30 minutes (does not include drying time) Create your own Easter-Eggstravaganza! You will need hard boiled or blown out eggs, food colouring, vinegar and water. In a cup, mix half a cup of water (room temperature water), 1 tablespoon of vinegar and several drops of food colouring. We used about 20 drops of each colour, but you can adjust this for lighter or darker. Prepare several different colours in this manner. Carefully place the eggs (individually one at a time!) in each cup of food colouring. Remove the eggs when they reach the desired shade with a spoon to remove the egg and place it in an egg holder or on a paper towel to dry. 10

9 - Safeguard their hearing Festivals can be quite loud, so it’s crucial to protect your children’s sensitive ears. Invest in a pair of ear defenders specifically designed for kids. To find the most suitable ones, take a moment to read product reviews and choose accordingly. 10 - Protect your skin from the sun Even on cloudy days, it’s crucial to regularly apply sun cream to protect your skin from harmful UV rays. Don’t forget to reapply throughout the day to keep everyone’s skin safe. If you forget to bring sunscreen, most festivals will have an essentials stall/shop, or the first aid tent will have sun cream. Remember, the most important thing is to have fun and create lasting memories with your family. By being prepared and organised, you can make your experience less stressful and more enjoyable. In addition to the tips mentioned above, here are a few other handy items to bring along: • A torch or solar-powered lantern for nighttime visibility, especially for those nighttime visits to the loo. • Solar fairy lights to add a cosy touch to your tent. • If possible, set up a big flag or bunting near your tent to easily spot it in the crowd. • Don’t forget to bring fully charged power bank phone chargers to stay connected throughout the festival. If you’re planning on taking children along to a festival, perhaps for the first time, here are some invaluable tips to ensure that you and your family have an unforgettable weekend. 1 – Lost kids Upon arrival at the festival, take some time to sit down with your children and explain what to do if they get lost. Show them what the festival stewards look like or instruct them to approach a mother with young children for help. All festivals have designated areas for lost children, usually located near the first aid point. Dressing your child in brightly coloured clothing can also make it easier to spot them in a crowd. Additionally, consider giving them glow sticks to wear as bracelets when it starts getting dark, as this will help you locate them if they wander off. It will also add a touch of excitement for the kids. 2 - Use wristbands with contact information To avoid any potential separation, write your contact details on a wristband and securely attach it to your child’s wrist. While most festivals provide wristbands, it’s always wise to confirm this beforehand to ensure you’re fully prepared. 3 - Stay hydrated Most festivals provide drinking water stations where you can refill your bottles. Bringing your own empty bottles not only saves money but also helps reduce plastic waste. 4 – Food and drink Most festivals will not allow food or drink past the campsite, but will allow baby food/milk and kids snacks. Definitely check their policy first. 5 - Be prepared for minor injuries Have a small first aid kit on hand. This way, you’ll be prepared for any small cuts or bumps that may occur during the festival. While there will be first aid areas available, it’s helpful to bring essentials like antibacterial wipes & plasters. 6 - Prepare for messiness Festivals can get messy, especially if it rains. Pack extra clothes for your children to change into if they get wet or muddy. Additionally, bring wipes as they come in handy for quick clean-ups. 7 - Stay dry in any weather No matter what the forecast says, it’s always a good idea to be prepared for rain. Make sure to pack waterproof coats or ponchos that can easily fit in your bag. This way, you’ll be ready for any unexpected showers that may come your way. 8 - Avoid getting stuck in the mud To prevent getting stuck in muddy areas, it’s important to have a pram or cart with sturdy wheels. This will ensure that you can easily navigate through any muddy patches without any trouble. Additionally, some larger festivals hire out carts. Before attending, check if they have this facility available and the cost. Shyne’s Top Tips for taking your kids to a festival 18 Raring2go! FESTIVAL FUN!

There’s just something so satisfying about cleaning when it comes to spring. But nobody wants to spend hours cleaning when there is a cleaning hack to be had! Move over Mrs Hinch, we’ve got you sorted this Spring! 1 Use Old T-Shirts to Wipe Down Mirrors When sorting clothes, set aside any old cotton T-shirts— they are excellent for giving mirrors a streak- and lint-free clean. For a chemical-free clean, mix white vinegar, distilled water, and a few drops of an essential oil. 2 Use rubber gloves to remove pet hair The easiest way to remove pet hair; rubber gloves! Don a pair of gloves and wipe down soft furnishings and carpets, with the fur sticking to the rubber. Then, wash your hands and the hair will unstick. Ta-dah! 3 Remove water rings with just a hairdryer & olive oil Get rid of dreaded water marks easily with a hairdryer and some olive oil. Blast the water ring on high heat until it begins to disappear, before rubbing a bit of olive oil on the area once the mark has gone to recondition the wood. 4 Steam clean your microwave If you’ve got stubborn food stains on the inside of your microwave, you can make them much easier to remove by steaming them first. Fill a bowl with water, white vinegar and some essential oil before turning it on for five minutes and the stains will then be much easier to clean off 5 Refresh Mattresses Sprinkle baking soda on your mattress, let it sit for a few hours to absorb odors, then vacuum it up. Rotate and flip your mattress to help maintain its shape and comfort. 6 Clean Blinds with Tongs and Microfiber Cloth Wrap microfiber cloths around the ends of a pair of kitchen tongs and secure them with rubber bands. Use this makeshift tool to clean both sides of your blinds at once. Spring Clean! 7 Remove Carpet Indentations with Ice Cubes Place ice cubes in indented areas of your carpet and let them melt completely. Once the water has evaporated, fluff up the carpet fibers with a fork or your fingers to remove the indentation. 8 Clean the bath with grapefruit The most environmentally friendly way to clean your bath! Simply cut a grapefruit in half, sprinkle it with some salt and rub it around the bath. No harsh chemicals or products needed! 9 Keep clean with cling film This is the best trick for keeping your fridge clean! Line each shelf with a layer of cling film and every week replace it with a new one. Any crumbs or spillages will be lifted and thrown away with the plastic. You can do the same with your grill and oven, using foil. 10 Disinfect sponges in the microwave Sponges can easily become dirty when doing a spring clean but you can give them a bit of a refresh by sprinkling over a small amount of lemon juice and then popping them in the microwave for two minutes. But do make sure your sponge is metal-free! SPRING CLEANING! Raring2go! 23 raring2go.co.uk

Raring2go! EDUCATION 26 The government’s recently announced update to its childcare support system aims to allow more parents greater access to detailed and personalised information about what they and their children are entitled to. An Eligibility checker childcarechoices.gov.uk now provides details on the support available to families, based on factors such as the child's age and family income. The government's largest-ever investment in childcare aims to save working parents up to £6,500 per year for those using 30 hours of childcare. Additionally, £100 million has been earmarked to areas around the UK to increase childcare settings' physical space and create thousands of new childcare places across the country. The Education Secretary strongly emphasised the government's commitment to providing accessible and flexible childcare, addressing the many challenges faced by working parents. The initiative includes offering quality childcare outside of school hours and increasing early years places where needed. Parents and care providers are encouraged to visit the Childcare Choices website to determine their eligibility for the various support options. As part of the childcare plan, £289 million has been allocated to local authorities from the wraparound childcare fund, ensuring primary school children can access childcare between 8 am and 6 pm. The goal is to achieve universal access to wraparound childcare for primary age school children in all areas by 2026. This announcement aligns with the Department for Work and Pensions' recent increase in monthly childcare support for parents on Universal Credit, reaching up to £951 for one child or £1,630 for two or more children. To add further support to childcare options, the childminder start-up grant scheme will open for applications by November 30, 2023. This grant, which ranges from £600 to £1,200, has at its core the aim of encouraging more individuals to register as childminders and offer wider, more flexible childcare solutions. Simultaneously, the Department for Education has responded to the early years foundation stage (EYFS) consultation by implementing a range of changes to reduce regulatory burdens and to enhance the early years workforce. These adjustments, such as allowing managers to decide if students and apprentices can count in ratios, demonstrate the ongoing commitment to delivering high-quality, affordable childcare that aligns with parents' working lives. The comprehensive approach to childcare will be discussed at the early years British Irish council, emphasizing the collaborative efforts across member administrations. This synopsis has been prepared as a quick reference guide and is not definitive.
