14 raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! WHAT’S ON & WHERE TO GO Exciting changes are on the way at Guildford Spectrum! Over the next few weeks, we’ll be bringing in new attractions and updating our facilities. As part of our long-term partnership with Guildford Borough Council, almost £10 million is being reinvested to make sure Guildford Spectrum stays the go-to spot for fitness, fun, and leisure in the South East. Exciting improvements and new experiences are coming to Guildford Spectrum! Puttify - Mini Golf, Reinvented Through Smart Tech and Seamless Gameplay The first project to get underway is a brandnew indoor mini golf experience called Puttify. Developed in partnership with specialist provider Greenspan, this tech-enhanced, interactive mini golf attraction will bring dynamic fun to all ages. Perfect for families, friends, school groups, and team outings. Work is due to start in the Spring and opening to the public after the Easter holidays. Gym Refurbishment & Expanded Fitness Offer We’re making big improvements to our fitness facilities, with the gym set to double in size as part of an exciting expansion. The newly developed top floor will significantly increase the gym floor space, creating more room for equipment, training zones and a better overall workout environment for members. To bring everything together under one roof, the Indoor Cycle Studio and Studio will also relocate into the new gym area, creating a dedicated fitness hub where gym and class activities sit side by side. Work is due to begin after the summer, with the result being a more spacious, modern and connected fitness experience, making it easier than ever to train, take classes and reach your goals at Guildford Spectrum. New Soft Play & Café Bar Experience We’re creating an exciting new family zone on the top floor, combining a brand-new soft play with a refreshed and welcoming café and bar area. Making it easier than ever for families to play, relax and spend time together. The current café space will be removed to make way for a much larger, modern soft play area, designed to give children more room to explore and climb in a safe, engaging environment. In turn, the existing bar will be transformed into a new café and bar offer, providing a comfortable, stylish place for parents and visitors to unwind. The popular seating area overlooking the leisure pool will remain. Leisure Pool refurbishment Our popular leisure pool will soon benefit from a series of exciting upgrades designed to refresh the pool area and make the experience even better for families and young swimmers. All slides will be fully refurbished, including improvements to the tower and stair access, and a brand-new interactive splash play feature will be installed to bring more fun and engaging water play for children. As part of the project, some older features will be retired to make way for these improvements. Work will begin shortly after the Easter holidays, with the pool scheduled to reopen in plenty of time for the summer holidays. Ready for a fantastic season of family fun.

17 Eight years ago, that’s exactly what I did. After a successful career in publishing, I was pregnant with my daughter Izzy and couldn’t imagine going back to a 9–5 in London with a long daily commute. I knew I still wanted to work - I just didn’t want to miss out on watching her grow up. Raring2go! turned out to be the perfect solution. Pastures New After eight incredible years, I’m now looking for someone new to take over the magazine, which has truly become my second baby. It’s a thriving, well-respected business, and I’d love to find someone who’ll continue to grow it and care about it as much as I have. A new opportunity has come my way, which is why I’ve decided to sell my Raring2go! baby - but don’t worry, I’m not disappearing! The magazine will continue as normal until I find its perfect new owner. What’s life like as a Raring2go! publisher? You’ll be your own boss, but with the full support of the Raring2go! franchise behind you - there’s always someone to turn to for advice when you need it. No previous experience is required, though a love of your local community, a good eye for detail, and a can-do attitude will definitely help. The role typically takes around 20–25 hours a week, and the best part is you choose when you work, so it fits easily around family life. Can I really have a career and still be there for my family? Absolutely! Raring2go! has given me the flexibility to do the school run, attend sports days and nativities, and enjoy time off during school holidays. We’ve also been lucky enough to try out so many fantastic activities and days out - discovering wonderful places, reviewing attractions, shows, classes and more along the way. So, if you’ve always dreamed of working for yourself and would love the chance to take on a well-established, much-loved local business, I’d love to hear from you. Give me a call for a friendly chat on 07841 156 821 or email gemma.campbell@raring2go.co.uk THIS MAGAZINE IS FOR SALE! Could YOU be the next publisher for Raring2go! Guildford & Surrey Heath? Have you ever dreamed of running your own business, making your own decisions, and shaping your work around your family life?
Lets go fly a kite up to the highest height! Now we don’t want to go too deep, but Kite Flying is great for kids to learn about physics, aerodynamics, weather and ecology (with the broadest of smiles on their faces. It’s also proven that flying a kite is brilliant at helping to develop better hand-eye coordination. Plus it’s the biggest thrill ever when the wind catches it and take it soaring away! Hold a family picnic in the park Picnics are a fun and way to help escape the daily routine of mealtime. An outdoor picnic in the park is a brilliantly simple way to make an everyday event that little bit different. Eating outdoors in a group can also foster better mental health and it’s been shown to improve the habits of fussy eaters! Feeding the ducks This is a great way in which to help your children get a better understanding of nature. Kids love watching a ducks heads bobbing up and down and are amazed at their speed in racing across water to capture that tiny square of bread that has been thrown in. Make a Mothers Day Card! There are plenty of resources available to help children make that extra special mothers day card this year. The look on Mums face when she opens the ‘hand made with love card’ is will be priceless. This is a great activity to do together to really make mum feel special. Puddle Jumping There’s no upper age limit here. For some reason, even adults derive enormous pleasure from putting on their wellies for a good old puddle splashing competition! 1 3 2 4 5 10 fun Spring family
Plant a spring garden (or just a plant) Capability Brown started somewhere, probably with his parents messing around planting a few things and look where he ended up! Gardening provides family fun time plus teaches valuable lessons about mother nature at work and how things grow. Get outside! Visit a farm and spot the spring babies! There is nothing as enchanting as a childs face as they watch a lamb take its first few faltering steps. Make sure you tell your children what is happening as it is happening and then prepare yourself for a relentless barrage of questions as they witness new life beginning in a very lovely setting... Get on your BIKE! Don’t panic, most kids won’t want to cycle for miles and miles. But they’ll love that feeling of speed, power and the wind rushing by them. Make sure they’re cycle proficient before taking them on public roads. Cycling is brilliant for physical and mental wellbeing! Play Tarzan - Climb a tree Add an element of competitiveness to a tree climb by inviting them to do their best impression of Tarzan! We mean his unique wailing noise and not his agility in jumping from vine to vine or from tree to tree! Physical fun and a sense of achievement. Walk on an empty beach! If you’re lucky enough to live within a relative short drive of a beach, this is one for you.Your kids will marvel at the fact that apart from a dog walker in the distance and possibly a boat off shore, you guys have the entire beach to yourselves. Enjoy it! 7 6 8 9 10 y activities to try!

Protecting your family against infections Introduction of the MMRV vaccine The measles, mumps, rubella and varicella (chickenpox) MMRV vaccine was introduced in January as part of the routine childhood immunisation schedule. The vaccine has been used in several countries for over 10 years. It has a good safety record and has dramatically reduced chickenpox cases and related hospital admissions. The vaccine will have a really positive impact on the health of young children and will lead to fewer missed days of school or nursery. Find out more at: Keep your family safe on the farm this spring Heading out for a farm adventure this spring? A few simple tips can help keep your day full of fun – and free from any unwanted buggy surprises! Farms are fantastic places for little (and big!) explorers, but even the friendliest animals can carry germs that make people unwell. Some bugs can cause more serious illness, especially in young children and pregnant women – and animals don’t have to look poorly to pass them on. With a bit of know‑how, you can enjoy all the muddy boots, cute animals and fresh air while keeping everyone healthy and happy. For tips about keeping everyone safe on farm visits, see: MMRV vaccination: a guide for parents and carers Measles update The UK recently lost its World Health Organization (WHO) measles elimination status after over 2,900 cases of measles were confirmed in England in 2024, the highest levels recorded in decades. This means it is more important than ever for all of us to be protected against the disease. Although young children will now only be offered MMRV, the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine is still available for older children and adults who are not fully protected with 2 doses. It’s never too late to catch up. See more at: What is measles and why is it so important we’re up to date with our vaccines to protect against it? 24 raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! EDUCATION In an age where young minds are constantly bombarded, the classroom must stand as a sanctuary where children feel safe to express themselves, explore ideas, and grow. More than just a venue for academic instruction, the classroom should be a vibrant ecosystem that nurtures creativity, builds confidence, and fosters a sense of belonging. Creativity thrives in environments where children are encouraged to take risks without fear of ridicule and I actively encourage girls to ask the questions – why, when, and how – which cultivates a culture of openness and curiosity. This is a strength of an all-girls environment. Our pupils are encouraged to share and express their opinions and form constructive arguments to debate topics about which they are passionate. This allows pupils to connect at a deeper personal level, igniting a passion for discovery that transcends the curriculum. A classroom that celebrates diverse viewpoints and encourages respectful dialogue helps children to develop not only academic skills, but also emotional resilience and self-assurance. Providing children with freedom allows confidence to flourish. When given the freedom to voice their thoughts, ask questions, and share perspectives, they begin to trust their own voices. Such empowerment is particularly vital in the primary years when self-doubt can easily creep in. A community is at the heart of fostering creativity and instilling confidence and the classroom space, where empathy is practised, differences are respected, and collaboration is championed, is a perfect example. When children feel connected to their peers and supported by their teachers, they are more likely to engage meaningfully, take initiative, contribute positively to group discussions, and voice their opinions. In fostering creativity, confidence, and community, the classroom becomes more than a place of instruction; it becomes a launchpad for lifelong learning and personal transformation. In today’s complex world, that kind of space is not just beneficial, it’s essential.
