Not enough children in Surrey start school fully vaccinated, leaving them vulnerable to contracting infections such as measles and whooping cough. The Surrey School Aged Immunisation Service deliver all immunisations for school aged children, including those home-educated or not in school for any other reason. This autumn, as usual, they will be providing the annual flu vaccine for all children between Reception age and Year 11. They also provide community ‘catch up’ clinics for any missed vaccinations. Bugs love company, the closer the better for them to be passed around. There are lots of things we can do to reduce the disruption they can cause to school and family life. Teaching good hygiene habits and knowing when to keep children away from school help stop infections spreading.
