9 Raring2go! PLACES2GO Godstone Farm's motto, "Discover, Explore, Play," embodies its deep-rooted dedication to the benefits of stimulating and exciting play for children. That's precisely why the farm has invested millions in a new Play Barn, making it Surrey's largest soft play destination. The Play Barn at Godstone Farm isn't just physically vast; it's also determined to make play as thrilling as possible. In the post-pandemic era, we've all come to really appreciate the fleeting nature of childhood, and parents strive to provide happy, playful, and fun environments for their children to explore and discover. As early as 2011, Chief Medical Officers emphasized that engaging in fun and stimulating activities is beneficial for children's physical health and mental wellbeing. Active children enhance their motor skills, develop coordination, balance, and body awareness. The results are evident: exercise leads to stronger muscles, improved bone density, and better control of breathing. High-quality play encompasses an additional aspect—risky play. Thrilling and exciting activities that carry physical risks, like climbing trees, jumping off swings, and building forts, fall under this category. While some argue against risky play, deeming it dangerous, growing evidence suggests its positive impact on children's development. Nicola Henderson, CEO of Godstone Farm, states, "As a society, we often go to great lengths to protect our children from harm. We bubble wrap their lives, sanitize every surface, and constantly hover over them. But what if we're hindering their development? What if we're denying them the chance to become resilient, confident, and capable adults? This might sound ambitious for a soft play centre, but it's something we consider daily and feel deeply passionate about." Henderson continues, "Research indicates that engaging in risky play helps children acquire essential skills such as problem-solving, decision-making, and risk assessment. By taking risks and experiencing the consequences, children learn to assess and make informed decisions. They also develop resilience by picking themselves up after falls and trying again. The new Play Barn at Godstone Farm features climbing walls, rope bridges, and tunnels - offering these opportunities for children in a controlled environment, ensuring they have fun rain or shine." By offering an environment that promotes this type of play, Godstone Farm intends to create lifelong memories and nurtures a spirit of adventure in its young visitors. This exciting new playbarn is open from late June onwards and to book tickets please go to www.godstonefarm.co.uk Godstone Farm’s new Play Barn champions the joy of play!

16 raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! SUMMER STUDY The summer holidays are a much-awaited break for primary school children, providing them with an opportunity to relax, unwind, and engage in various recreational activities. However, it is important for children to continue studying and writing during this time to maintain their academic progress and foster a love for learning. Here are the key reasons why it is beneficial for primary school children to continue their studies during the summer holidays. Consistent learning during the summer holidays helps prevent the "summer slide," which refers to the loss of academic skills and knowledge over the extended break. By engaging in regular study and writing, children can retain what they have learned throughout the school year, ensuring a smoother transition into the next grade. Studying during the summer holidays keeps children mentally stimulated. It really can help them maintain a routine and a sense of structure, promoting discipline and focus. Regular practice also enhances critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills. Writing during the summer holidays allows children to express their creativity and their incredible imagination. It encourages them to articulate their thoughts and ideas effectively, improving their communication skills. Writing can take various forms, such as storytelling, or writing letters to friends or family members, encouraging self-expression and building confidence. Encouraging primary school children to continue studying and writing during the summer holidays benefits their academic progress, mental stimulation, creativity, communication skills, and fosters a lifelong love for learning. It is a valuable investment in their education and overall development, ensuring a well-rounded and successful academic journey. Summer studying

17 Raring2go! SUMMER STUDY At SPD Tuition and Coaching, we understand the crucial role parents play in supporting their child's emotional well-being and academic progress, especially during the summer holidays. Through our expertise in behaviour support and academic guidance, we empower parents to create an optimal learning environment and help their child thrive. Emotional regulation is key to children's overall well-being and learning success. It involves effectively managing and controlling emotions. By developing this skill, children can navigate challenges, stay focused, and engage in meaningful learning experiences. As parents, you can foster emotional regulation through co-regulation, providing a nurturing and supportive environment where your child feels understood and supported. During the summer holidays, when routines may relax, emotional regulation becomes even more crucial. Children may experience a range of emotions, and by helping them regulate their emotions, you create an environment that supports their learning journey. This enhances their attention span, memory retention, and problem-solving abilities, enabling them to make significant progress during the break. Here are three ways you can support your child's emotional regulation this summer: Actively listen to your child's emotions, validate their feelings, and help them express themselves effectively. Create a structured daily routine that includes dedicated learning time, physical activities, and relaxation for stability and balance. Foster an atmosphere of trust, respect, and open communication, allowing your child to express their thoughts, concerns, and needs. By implementing these strategies, you can empower your child to effectively manage their emotions and accelerate their learning progress. Discover how our comprehensive services, including parental strategy sessions, can support you in creating a harmonious and productive learning environment at home. 27 Raring2go! HEALTH At Horley and Crawley Spinal Health clinics we offer a full consultation, examination and x-rays if needed to thoroughly assess your system and find out how we can best help you. In most cases Chiropractic and spinal treatments will quickly and effectively resolve most common conditions such as lower back and pelvic pain, neck and arm problems and the majority of headaches. Many of our patients do however present with more than one condition, often multiple, and with other health challenges. That’s why we always consider the whole person and every aspect of their current health status. Did you know that B12 deficiency is common post pregnancy, due to the increased need for B12 for the mother and fetus? And symptoms of B12 deficiency can include extreme tiredness, pins and needles, muscle pain and weakness, a sore tongue and mouth ulcers. And also may include depression and confusion. All of course common in new Mum’s and may be normal signs but worth considering. Did you know that the diabetes drug Metformin blocks absorption of B12 and that bloods tests don’t always correctly identify a low B12 level? Some of the symptoms of low B12 levels in children are dizziness and tingling sensations as well as fatigue, poor concentration and headaches. Know any teenagers like that?! One study showed a 32% reduction in chronic low back pain following B12 supplementation. Now of course if you have spinal joint dysfunction and nerve irritation B12 can’t move those stuck joints, but that is why it works so well for some patients in conjunction with our hands on care. After chiropractic care many people report better sleep and energy levels as well as less pain and better movement. If you are suffering with any of the symptoms mentioned today please contact us at the clinic for a FREE spinal screening, where we can answer any questions and find out how we could help you. Call 01293 510210 (Crawley) or 01293 823444 (Horley) or visit our facebook pages or website for further information. Philip Mitchell DC, Doctor of Chiropractic. **Please note this is not intended as medical advice and you must consult a professional if you are concerned about anything mentioned in this article** “Thank you Phil. The whole team have supported all our medical needs from the moment I walked in for help. NO judgement just 100 % support and guidance. The bambino’s always love seeing you all every week and I love the fact you explain and teach them what you are doing, how the body works and the reasons why it’s important. The changes in Harrison from his anxiety being high and his sensory difficulties from pressure points to today is amazing. He sleeps better, he is relaxed after being adjusted and all his pain from walking 15 miles every week have all gone.” Karen W. www.chiropractic-uk.com 68 Victoria Road, RH6 7PZ 01293 823444 9 Southgate Parade, RH10 6ER 01293 510210 Could a B12 deficiency be an underlying cause of your pain and fatigue?
