Raring2go! Guildford
Raring2go! WHAT’S ON 16 The Rural Life Living Museum, situated in the beautiful Surrey countryside near Farnham, founded by Madge and Henry Jackson, first opened in the early 1970’s. Over the last half century, the Museum has moved nearly 20 historic buildings, which now sit on our 10 acre site complimented by a variety of barns housing the Museum’s collection of some 40,000 objects telling the story of everyday life in the countryside. The visitor trail begins with a visit to our Arcon prefab, in which you can look around and sit on the sofa, whilst the residents are out, to soak up the 1950’s atmosphere inside. Visitors make their way through the arboretum, home to over 100 trees, including the ‘Verdun Horse Chestnut’ grown from a conker brought home from the battlefields of Northern France. THE RURAL LIFE LIVING MUSEUM Nestling in the trees at the top of the site, visitors will find Mills Wood, a beautiful recreation of a sleepy rural railway station from where, on a variety of days throughout the year, visitors can take a ride round the Museum on the Old Kiln Light Railway, hauled by one of our heritage steam or diesel locomotives. The Museum plays host to a wide variety of events to satisfy all interests, from our annual village fete where visitors can soak up the atmosphere playing games of bygone times, through Fantastic Fire Engines when the site is filled with vintage fire engines and volunteers demonstrate firefighting and rescue techniques for all to enjoy. Village at War and Vintage Revival take the Museum back to the 1940’s with live music, vintage vehicles and trade stands, dressing up is a must! The end of the summer
