11 Raring2go! 1. Keep a Safe Distance Ensure children watch the fireworks from a safe distance, at least 15–20 meters (50–65 feet) away from where the fireworks are lit. 2. Supervision is Key Always supervise children closely during fireworks displays. Never leave them unattended, especially near fireworks, bonfires, or sparklers. 3. Dress Safely Dress children in non-flammable, close-fitting clothing to reduce the risk of burns. Avoid loose or flowing clothing that can catch fire easily. 4. No Handling of Fireworks Never allow children to handle or light fireworks, including sparklers. Fireworks should only be handled by responsible adults. 5. Sparkler Safety If sparklers are being used, make sure children are over five years old, and have them hold sparklers at arm's length. Have a bucket of water or sand ready to dispose of used sparklers immediately. 6. Use Ear Protection Fireworks can be loud, which may frighten or harm children's hearing. Use ear defenders or earplugs, especially for younger children or those with sensitive hearing. 7. Stay Away from Bonfires Keep children well away from bonfires, as they can spit embers and sparks. Always supervise children around any open flames. 8. Educate About Firework Safety Teach children that fireworks are not toys and should never be picked up or touched, even after they appear to have gone out. 9. Have First Aid on Hand Be prepared with a basic first aid kit, including burn cream and sterile bandages, and know the emergency numbers to call in case of accidents. 10. Create a Safe Viewing Area Set up a designated, safe area for children to watch the fireworks where they won’t be able to wander off or get too close to dangerous zones.
