Raring2go! 12 raring2go.co.uk Romford Market is a very old market in the London Borough of Havering, and its story starts way back in 1247! That’s when King Henry III allowed the people of Romford to have a market every Wednesday. Imagine knights and horses from the olden days stopping by to trade goods. The market was set up in a great spot, right on the road between London and Colchester, which helped it become very busy. In those days, Romford Market was famous for selling animals like cows and sheep. Farmers from nearby villages would bring their livestock to sell. In the 1700s, Romford Market started selling more than just animals. You could find fruits, bread, clothes and household items. This made the market even more exciting. They built special stalls and buildings for the sellers, turning the market square into a busy and lively place. In the 1800s, things changed again when the railway came to Romford.Trains made it easier for people and goods to travel. Even through the 1900s, with big changes like World War II and new buildings being constructed, Romford Market stayed strong. It adapted by selling more modern items, like electronics and fashionable clothes, along with fresh food. Today, Romford Market is still going strong! You can visit it on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. It’s a fun place where you can find almost anything, from tasty food to cool gadgets. The market is over 750 years old, but it keeps its old-time charm while also bringing in new things for everyone to enjoy. Raring2go! 20 raring2go.co.uk Modern technology has transformed primary schools, making learning more engaging and effective for young students. One of the biggest changes is the use of interactive whiteboards. These large, touch-sensitive screens replace traditional chalkboards and allow teachers to display colourful images, videos, and interactive lessons. Tablets and laptops are also becoming common in classrooms. These devices provide easy access to educational apps and games that make learning fun. For example, maths apps turn solving problems into a game, helping children practice skills while enjoying themselves.Tablets are particularly useful for reading e-books and researching information online, encouraging a love for reading and curiosity. Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) are newer technologies making their way into schools.VR can take students on virtual field trips to places like ancient Egypt or the depths of the ocean without leaving the classroom. AR on the other hand, can make textbook images come to life by adding interactive 3D elements, which can enhance understanding and lead to greater retention. Coding and programming are also being introduced to young learners. Programs like Scratch teach children the basics of coding through simple, drag-and-drop interfaces. This not only builds their technological skills but also enhances problem-solving and logical thinking abilities. This new technology can mean better communication between teachers, students and parents. It also prepares students for the future by equipping them with essential skills and fostering a lifelong love of learning in a modern approach. Using Modern Technology in Primary Schools

Raring2go! 24 raring2go.co.uk Going on holiday should be a time to relax and enjoy some time outside of Havering, but leaving your home unattended can make it vulnerable to burglary and other security risks. Installing a security alarm before going on holiday is crucial for several reasons. The presence of a security alarm significantly deters potential burglars. Criminals in Havering are less likely to target homes that are equipped with visible security systems, knowing that their chances of being caught are higher. In the UK, where burglary rates can vary across regions, a security alarm acts as a first line of defence, providing peace of mind that your home is less attractive to opportunistic intruders. Modern security alarms are often integrated with advanced technology, offering real-time alerts and remote monitoring. This means that homeowners can receive notifications on their smartphones if the alarm is triggered, allowing them to take immediate action even if they are miles away. This capability is particularly beneficial for holidaymakers, as it ensures they are informed about the status of their property and can contact the police or neighbours to check on the house if necessary. Additionally, having a security alarm can also reduce the financial impact of a burglary. Many insurance companies offer discounts on home insurance premiums for homes equipped with approved security systems. This not only provides immediate cost savings but also enhances the overall value of your security investment. Having a security alarm before going on holiday is a measure that enhances home security, deters criminals, provides real-time monitoring, and can potentially reduce insurance costs. It ensures that you can enjoy your holiday with the confidence that your home is well protected. Keep safe this summer Havering! Why Havering should consider their security before going on holiday!
