21 Raring2go! Switzerland, a nation that is known around the world for chocolate, neutrality and cuckoo clocks, will trade its distinctive ‘cowbells for corners’ this summer as it hosts the 14th UEFA European Women’s Football Championship. From July 2 to July 27, sixteen incredible teams will battle it out across eight Swiss cities and transform idyllic alpine settings into arenas of fantastic football frenzy. Forget yodeling, for the only high notes will be the roar of crowds celebrating spectacular goals... and we are anticipating a significant number of goals! The Swiss organsiers have pulled out all the stops and as expected been meticulous in their planning. Matches will take place in ecofriendly stadiums like Basel’s St. Jakob-Park and Zurich’s Letzigrund, where solar panels will power floodlights and vegan bratwursts will try to outsell traditional sausages. The organisers have pledged to offset all of the tournament emissions by planting 2025 trees; one for every time England fans nervously bite their fingernails cheering on the Lionesses. Fan zones will be filled atmosphere, revelry and fondue-fueled camaraderie, but molton cheese has been banned from matches after an incident during rehearsals! On the field, the drama is set to be sizzling. The ‘Lionesses’ aim to defend their 2022 title, but Spain’s La ‘Roja’, led by midfield maestro Alexia Putellas, are hungry for revenge. Meanwhile, Switzerland’s ‘Nati’, ranked 12th, hopes home advantage and their ‘Swiss Army penknife’ versatility (which in 2025 is a heady mix of veterans and rising stars), will carve an unmistakable path to glory. Coach Inka Grings commented, ‘We’re precise, punctual and great at multitasking. Just don’t ask us to lose on purpose.’ Off the pitch, the tournament is breaking ground. Record-breaking ticket sales (over 75% sold by April) and a first-ever ‘Legacy Fund’ will boost girls’ football programs across Europe. Even UEFA’s normally stern president, Aleksander Čeferin, cracked a smile while announcing a new gender-neutral trophy design: ‘It’s shiny. It’s equal. It’s heavy.’ So grab your hiking boots and practice your whistling as Switzerland 2025 promises goals, grit and maybe just maybe a stray fondue fork. Just don’t be late. The Swiss don’t do late! Live coverage of Women's Euro 2025 on TV is shared between BBC and ITV with every match shown live between them including shared live coverage of the final. UEFA European Women’s Championship Taking place in Switzerland this summer, this much anticipated tournament will see the mighty Lionesses defend their title. Over 25 glorious days of football in July, the world will unite to experience precision meeting passion. Photo by Connor Coyne on Unsplash 5277 R2G 2025 SUMMER.qxp_Layout 1 12/05/2025 09:20 Page 11

Homemade Burgers with Mozzarella Our step by step guide to make a perfect burger with Mozarella cheese topping! 1: In a bowl, mix the minced beef, diced onion, salt & pepper (chilli powder & garlic powder if required) 2.Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions. 3. Form each portion into a patty, about 1/2 inch thick. Use your thumb to make a small indent in the centre of each patty (this helps them cook evenly). 4. Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. 5. Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for about 3-4 minutes per side for medium doneness. Adjust the cooking time depending on your preference (longer for well-done). 6. About 1 minute before the patties are done, place a slice of mozzarella cheese on top of each patty and cover with a lid to melt the cheese. 7. Raring2go! PLACES TO GO 27 Make your own kite Steps to Make the Kite 1. Create the frame Take your wooden dowels/ straight sticks. Lay them in a cross shape, with the shorter stick crossing the longer stick about one-third from the top. Use tape or string to tie them securely together at the intersection. 2. Shape the kite Place the frame on your paper and cut a diamond shape slightly larger than the frame, leaving about 1 inch of margin around the edges. Fold the paper edges over the frame and secure them with tape or glue. 3. Attach the bridle string Tie a piece of string from one side of the horizontal spar to the other. Another piece of string then goes from the middle of this loop to well down the vertical spar. This is called the bridle string, which stabilises your kite in the air. 4. Add a Tail Attach a long piece of fabric or ribbon to the bottom of the kite. This will help stabilise the kite during flight. You could tie small strips of fabric along the tail for added flair. 5. Decorate your kite Personalise the kite with markers, stickers or other craft materials you have to hand. 6. Attach the flying line Tie one end of a longer piece of string (kite string) to the bridle string where the sticks intersect. Roll the other end onto a spool or small stick for easy handling. Materials needed: • Lightweight paper (tissue paper, newspaper, or thin wrapping paper) • Wooden dowels or straight sticks (1 long and 1 short; bamboo skewers work too) • String (any strong, lightweight thread) • Sticky tape • Scissors • Glue (optional, for securing parts) • Felt tip pens, crayons, or stickers for decoration • Ribbon for the tail Tips: Use lightweight materials to ensure the kite can catch the wind. Adjust the length of the bridle string for better balance if the kite wobbles. Supervise younger children, especially near roads or crowded areas.
