Children’s Book Reviews It’s the perfect time of year to curl up with a good book. Thank you to the pupils at St James’s CE Primary School, Wollaston, for sending in these reviews of their favourite books: “I recommend the book ‘I Hate School’ by Jeanne Willis and Tony Ross. I really like it because in the book the really exaggerates fictional things about how bad school is and if the children talk, they get their heads chopped off. The teachers make you step on glass and eat rabbit droppings! It’s a very fun book and children will relate to it but school isn’t really that bad.” “The book I’m recommending is ‘The Enchanted Wood’ by Enid Blyton. I want to recommend this book because it’s interesting and it is a fairy tale. I would recommend this book to my teacher. My favourite people in the book are Beth, Frannie, Moon-Face and Silky because they are funny.” “The book I would recommend is called ‘Candy Cove Pirates’ from the Secret Kingdom series by Rosie Banks. I have chosen this book because I like fantasy stories and long books. I have read this book and I loved it. My favourite character is Summer. I think I would recommend it to people who love magic and fairy tales. “ “I would recommend ‘Girls Under Pressure’ by Jacqueline Wilson to my friend because it is about fashion and love. Magda is my favourite because she dyed her hair red and cut it short. All of the characters are good friends and family. “ “I recommend the book ‘Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life’ by James Patterson. I’m recommending this book because it’s very funny and it doesn’t get boring as it goes on so it keeps you reading. My favourite character is Rafe because he’s very funny and he’s determined. “ “I’m recommending Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by JK Rowling. My favourite character is Mad Eye Moody. The house elves are very kind so Ron gets lots of food!”
