Raring2go! GO-TO GUIDE 4 raring2go.co.uk 1. Save money Check whether there are any restrictions on dates and times that you can use the pass, and work out when you would be available to go. You may only need to visit an attraction twice in the year to cover the cost of the annual pass. Thereafter, you will have unlimited visits which can result in large savings. Work out how much you’ll save by dividing the cost of the pass by the cost of a days admission, so that you know exactly how many times you will need to visit before you start saving money. 2. Year-round access to seasonal events Lots of attractions hold seasonal events and activities throughout the year, for example, Easter Egg hunts, summer trails, Halloween and Christmas-themed events. These events may also be included in the cost of the annual pass, or available at a discount. 3. Discounts in the gift shop or café Check whether the annual pass holder benefits from other discounts. Many will offer a discount in the café or gift shop, which is great news when you are desperate for a coffee or for when it’s time to exit the attraction and you have lots of pleading eyes from the children. 4. Other venues You may be able to use some annual passes at other locations. Check out the passes that you can use at different locations throughout the UK - perfect for the summer holidays! 5. Quicker entrance with fast-track queueing At busy times of the year, the queue at the entrance of larger attractions can build up. A fast-track entrance is perfect to whizz excited children straight in without delay, and get started on the fun! This is perfect for families just wanting to drop in for an hour or so, which leads on to… 6. Short visits Unlimited access means that you can go along for just an hour after school and not feel that it’s a waste of money. There is no pressure to try to race around and fit everything in each time you visit. Several short visits ensure that smaller children don’t get overwhelmed or too tired. Plus... you will be able to see the different theming at the attraction throughout the year. Why not consider buying an annual pass this year for the likes of Drayton Manor, Ironbridge or West Midland Safari Park. Your local arboretum, both Arley and Bodenham offer these also! 6 reasons to buy an annual pass this winter

Support. Independent education from 3 months to 18 years. Choosing the right school for your child... It’s an important and sometimes difficult decision. With so many schools seeming to have a similar offer, how do you make that all-important and informed choice? “When I meet prospective parents, I sometimes refer to the ‘Goldilocks Test’ - does Heathfield Knoll School feel just right? Of course, academic excellence, nurturing pastoral care and a fulfilling enrichment programme should be taken as read. I invite you to visit Heathfield Knoll School to see first-hand pupil happiness and positive relationships. You will not be disappointed.” Mr Lawrence Collins, Headmaster. Pastoral care is key to all that we do at Heathfield Knoll. All staff are fully involved in school life in and outside of the classroom, and this enables them to know and support their pupils. A close home-school relationship allows staff to support pupils and families in good times and bad. Heathfield Knoll helps pupils to develop the resilience to deal with and learn from all experiences and take opportunities to improve and be the best they can be. Care can be provided from 7.30 am until 6 pm throughout the year, including school holidays. Preschool is a term-time-only provision; however, the very popular wrap-around care and Holiday Club is available all year round, only closing for Christmas and Easter weeks and Bank Holidays. Heathfield Knoll adopts a creative and tailored approach to education. This allows each individual to flourish and optimise their learning. 16 raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! WELL-BEING It’s never too late to get in shape! Never write yourself off as being ‘too old.’ There are no age limits when it comes to self-improvement. You can still get fitter, slim down, tone up and learn something new. So often as parents we put ourselves second, and while we take our little ones to their various classes to ensure they stay fit, strong and healthy, we often end up in bad shape ourselves. As years roll on and tiredness increases along with aches and pains, we question if we even have it in us to improve. The exciting news is that its never to late to get in shape! You may not be as strong, flexible or fit as you once were, but that doesn’t mean you can’t improve. All you need to remember when beginning something new later in life is a few simple rules: • Talk to the class instructor about your health and well being honestly, so they can support you at your level and meet your needs. • Ease yourself into new things gently. Give your body time to adjust. • Space out your training days to allow your body to properly recover between exercising. • Listen to your body, and communicate any problems to your instructor who can tailor your exercise. • Be open to having fun and enjoying the challenge. What’s out there for adults? Many people are bored or feel unmotivated in a gym. They potentially lack confidence in knowing what to do. Exercise classes are much better as they have structure, proper guidance from a qualified instructor, and a fun social element too. Try seeing which classes have adult or family sessions available, you may be surprised. Dance, football, netball, and other hobbies associated with children can be fantastic fun for adults too, while getting you fitter and in better shape while you play. Martial arts, for example, is often misconstrued as a children’s activity, when in fact it was designed by the military for use only by adults. Over time, training has softened to make it child friendly, but it is designed to turn your average adult into the strongest and best version of themselves. Many people join in their 60s and go on to get a black belt. In Wyre Forest Taekwondo there are multiple members who are 60+ who enjoy their training alongside people of all ages. Many people at the club train with disabilities, long-term injury and other issues, but training is tailored to the individual, and you will find this at many different clubs. The benefits of training in later life include improving physique, reduce anxiety, stress, and depression, better all-round health (reducing risks of heart attacks and stroke), improved cognition & memory, lower blood pressure, improve mobility and flexibility, and most importantly exercise helps to slow down the effects of aging on both body and mind. It never hurts to get our and meet new people either! Article by Raring2Go’s Health Professional, Katie Billingham. Instructor of Wyre Forest Taekwondo, & qualified Personal Trainer. www.wyreforesttaekwondo.com WyreForestTaekwondo@gmail.com
