Raring2make! FUN IDEAS FOR MAKING THINGS TOGETHER ‘Cakes are healthy too, you just eat a small slice’ MaryBerry www.raring2go.co.uk Christmas Pudding Recipe Ingredients •225g/8oz golden caster sugar •225g/8oz vegetarian suet •120g/4oz, plain flour •340g/12oz sultanas •340g/12oz raisins •225g/8oz currants •60g/2oz flaked almonds •120g/4oz chopped candied peel •120g/4oz fresh white breadcrumbs •Zest of 1 lemon •1level tsp ground cinnamon •5 eggs beaten•1level tsp mixed spice •1 level tsp freshly grated nutmeg •Pinch of salt •150ml/5fl oz brandy or rum Method Mix together all the dry ingredients. Stir in the eggs and brandy and mix through well. Turn the mix into 4x1pint or 2x2 pint lightly-greased pudding basins. Put a circle of baking parchment and foil over the top of each basin and tie securely with string. Make a string handle from one side of the basin to the other so it's easier to pick the basin out of the pan after cooking. Put the basins in a large steamer of boiling water and cover with a lid. Boil for 5-6 hours, topping the boiling water up from time to time if necessary. If you don't have a steamer, put the basins in a large pan on inverted saucers on the base. Pour in boiling water to come a third of the way up the sides of the pudding bowls. Cover and steam as before. Cool. Change the baking parchment and foil covers for fresh ones and tie up as before. Store in a cool cupboard until Christmas Day. To serve the pudding on Christmas Day, steam for 2 hours and serve with brandy butter, rum sauce, cream or home-made custard. Tanga Club is a registered charity (1190621) set up for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), their families and friends. It was founded in 2019 by a mother of two children - an Autistic son and a daughter who has no additional needs. At the time, there were no fully inclusive activities where children with and without additional needs could play together and become friends - only groups targeted towards her Autistic son or other specific conditions. The founder invited 5 other parents to help her change this situation, and provide a safe space where all children - regardless of ability - could meet and play together without fear of judgement, and where parents and carers could get some support. The group was to be suitable for children with disabilities and also appealing to their siblings and friends. The name was derived from the Maori word for Autism, "Takiwatanga", literally translated as "In his/her own space and time". Tanga Club wasborn! Starting with a weekly termtime youth and social group in Hexham's TORCH Centre, the meet up quickly became a registered charity, and now it's 400 plus members take part in all sorts of activities, including forest schools, events, trips, weekends away, quiet sessions, parent & carer support, parent & carer retreats and help and advice on all aspects of parenting young people with SEND. People from all over the region can join Tanga Club and to our members we are known as "the Tanga Family"; no diagnosis or referral is needed to join this amazing support network. If you would like to hear more about what we do please see our Facebook page @Tangaclubhexham, joinour private group Tanga@TORCH or email info@tangafamily.co.uk. In just under a year, the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place in Paris. To mark this occasion, Get Set (the official youth engagement programme from Team GB and ParalympicsGB), is on a mission to get children aged 5-11 and their families more active with their new virtual challenge – Path to Paris. Schools, community groups or families can set up teams for children to take part – and everyone can join in with the fun alongside them, completely for free! We all know how important it is to get children more active. Research has shown clear links between how active children are and the state of their mental wellbeing, even down to how much they are able to concentrate and their levels of selfesteem. Path to Paris provides a fantastic opportunity to bring positive change into all aspects of children’s lives, all while bringing families, school communities, and wider communities together. The challenge begins in Athens, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. From there, children will embark on a virtual journey around the world in a team bus, completing fun activities as they explore different places on their way to the Paris Games. Every physical activity logged will earn kilometres to power their virtual team bus to its final destination.Whether it’s jumping on the trampoline in the garden, playing wheelchair basketball, attending a weekly judo club, or dancing around the living room as a family, it all counts, so everyone can get involved and get their hearts racing doing something they enjoy. As well as getting active, children will learn about athletes and their sports, the history of the Games, and can also win incredible prizes as they complete the Path to Paris. The prizes range from sports equipment to support them to get and stay active, posters and stickers to help them track their progress, and even exclusive school visits from Olympic and Paralympic athletes! Team members might also get shout outs on social media from athletes, or win awards for their outstanding achievements, whether individually or as a family. Path to Paris uses a gamified approach designed to inspire and excite children to take part and keep moving. There are lots of motivational activities and videos to encourage them to stay active and build healthy habits, and in doing so, power their virtual team bus to Paris before the start of the Games. 29 ANEWERA BEGINS FORAYP AYP Financial Planning, founded by Kim Alexandra nearly 20 years ago, is now the Hexham office of Perspective (North East) Ltd. Our expertise includes estate planning, financial matters in divorce and ethical investing. For a free initial consultation, contact us at: T: 01434 607808 All calls to and from our landlines and mobiles are recorded to meet regulatory requirements E: enquiries.northeast@pfgl.co.uk pfgl.co.uk/northeast When Kim Alexandra founded AYP Financial Planning (AYP) in Hexham in 2005, even she could hardly imagine the positive impact it would have on many people’s lives in Northumberland, Cumbria, Durham and beyond. “I established AYP to offer a top quality independent financial planning service for women. In the almost 20 years since, my business has evolved beyond specialising in advising women, and we have experienced tremendous growth with clients confidently referring family and friends as they know all will be treated with the utmost respect and professionalism by the whole team. What continues to set us apart is our in-depth expertise in specialist areas of financial planning that help clients achieve their financial goals. Our clients include those with their own businesses and those going through divorce or separation. We specialise in Ethical investing as many clients prefer to invest in responsible companies knowing their investments are an influence for positive corporate behaviour. Financial Planning is a continuous, life-long process and having a trusted adviser to help you through all of life’s ups and downs in an increasingly complex financial world is crucial. I needed to be happy we could provide this high level of service for our clients not just now, but long into the future. I knew a larger partner could provide access to the next generation of advisers, and help with the growing regulatory burden. After a long search, I am delighted to become the Hexham office of Perspective (North East) Ltd”. Raring2go! SERVICES
