Click anywhere on this page to buy this book or visit: www.lovereading4kids.co.uk “This super summer-themed collection of crime and mystery stories for curious kids showcases thirteen stories by some of the best contemporary children’s writers." The Super Sunny Murder Club was a fun and enjoyable read. It was light paced but still exciting. Some stories were better than others and some weren’t even about murders (or even human characters!) but all had an element of excitement and at least one page turning moment. My three favourite stories would have to be: Murder at Mystery and Mayhem (Robin Stevens), Window Pain (Sharna Jackson) and Say I Dunnit by Elle McNicoll. My favourite character was Why from Murder at Mystery and Mayhem. These stories were engaging and I would strongly recommend them to anyone who likes a good old Whodunnit. 12 raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! THINGS TO DO Reading as a bonding experience holds a unique and powerful place in the realm of parent-child relationships. The shared act of reading can create a profound connection, fostering emotional intimacy and a sense of togetherness. When adults read to children, the experience goes beyond the mere transmission of a story. It becomes a shared journey of exploration and imagination. For infants and toddlers, the close physical proximity during storytime establishes a foundation of comfort and security. The sounds of reading aloud, coupled with the soothing tone of a parents voice, creates a tranquil and nurturing atmosphere. These early shared reading moments contribute to the development of a strong attachment between the child and the reader. As children grow, shared reading evolves into a dynamic interaction. It provides a platform for dialogue and discussion, allowing parents to engage with the child's thoughts, questions, and interpretations of the story. This interactive exchange not only enhances the child's language skills but also deepens the emotional connection between reader and listener. Reading together offers an opportunity for shared exploration of new worlds, ideas, and values. It exposes children to diverse perspectives, cultures, experiences, and opens up conversations about the broader aspects of life. Through the characters and situations encountered in books, parents and children can navigate discussions on emotions, relationships, and moral values, enriching the child's understanding of the world and their place in it. The shared experience of choosing books, turning pages, and exploring stories can create a deep sense of cooperation and mutual enjoyment. Whether it is a nightly ritual before bedtime or an impromptu storytelling session when an opportunity arises, the act of reading together acts to strengthen the emotional bonds between individuals. It creates lasting memories, associated not only with the stories themselves but with the warmth and closeness shared during those precious moments of literary exploration. In essence, reading as a bonding experience transcends the pages of a book, weaving a tapestry of shared memories and emotional connections that endure throughout a lifetime. Reading together as a family Bonding Experience

18 raring2go.co.uk Drama and dance classes provide a dynamic and supportive environment for children that helps to cultivate and boost their confidence in numerous ways. First and foremost, these classes encourage self-expression. Through improvisation, role-playing, and scripted scenes, children learn to articulate their thoughts and emotions effectively. Doing this not only enhances verbal communication skills but also allows them to explore and to understand their own feelings. And this in turn contributes to a stronger sense of self. More importantly, drama classes help nurture a positive and judgment-free atmosphere. In this creative space, children are encouraged to take risks without fear of failure or criticism. The emphasis is on the process rather than just the outcome. This promotes resilience and forms a willingness to embrace challenges. As children navigate different characters and scenarios, they begin to develop a sense of adaptability and problem-solving skills which are crucial attributes that translate into confidence across various aspects of their lives. Teamwork is another fundamental aspect of drama and dance classes. Collaborating with peers on group routines and performances helps children to learn the the importance of co-operation and mutual support. They learn to listen, that to compromise is fine and to value diverse perspectives. All of which contribute to a robust foundation for interpersonal skills. The ability to work effectively with others is a key component of confidence, as children realise the value of their contributions within a group dynamic. Furthermore, the experience of performing in front of an audience, whether it's classmates, instructors or parents helps children overcome stage fright and again build self-assurance. The applause and positive feedback they will receive become affirmations of their new found capabilities, reinforcing a positive self-image. This newfound confidence extends beyond the stage and will influence academic pursuits, social interactions and many future endeavors. In essence, drama and dance classes provide a holistic platform for children to discover, explore, and celebrate their unique identities. The skills and self-assurance gained through these experiences have a lasting impact that empower them to navigate the challenges of growing up with resilience and confidence. 22 raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! SCIENCE Picture this: a world where science isn't confined to the dusty pages of textbooks but explodes into a kaleidoscope of wonder, curiosity, and laughter. Helping children enjoy science is less about equations and more about creating a concoction of curiosity with a dash of humour. Let's embark on a journey to make science less a snooze-fest and more a sci-fun-tastic adventure! First up, let's ditch the white lab coats and instead embrace the mad scientist persona. Who says you can't conduct experiments with a dash of flair? Turn your kitchen into a scientific playground where concocting a baking soda volcano is not just a lesson in chemical reactions but a dazzling eruption of giggles and "oohs" and "aahs." Enter the realm of "Science-tainment." Combine education with entertainment by introducing kids to the magical world of science shows and YouTube channels. From mind-boggling physics experiments to wacky chemistry demonstrations, let the screen be their portal to the captivating universe of science without the boredom-induced eye rolls. Inject a healthy dose of humour into the equation. Science jokes, puns, and quirky anecdotes can transform a seemingly complex concept into a side-splitting revelation. Why did the atom go to therapy? It had too many issues! Making science fun will be about tickling their funny bones while expanding their minds. Create a DIY science kit that's more superhero hideout than a boring box of test tubes. Fill it with items that spark curiosity – magnifying glasses, a mini telescope and maybe even a cape for that extra dash of scientific flair. The key is to make science tangible, textured and utterly irresistible. Outdoor escapades are a veritable playground for scientific exploration. Turn a walk in the park into a nature scavenger hunt, challenging kids to identify plants, insects and birds. All of a sudden science isn't confined to the classroom but is an adventure waiting to unfold around every corner. Celebrate the art of messy experimentation. Let kids get their hands dirty (literally) by encouraging hands-on activities that involve slime-making, paper mâché volcanoes and gooey concoctions. Learning becomes an immersive experience where the mess is not a problem but an essential component in the recipe for scientific fun. Lastly, meet the science wizards – real-life heroes who make science cool. Introduce children to the stories of groundbreaking scientists, their quirks, and the exciting discoveries that shaped the world. Suddenly, science isn't just about formulas and equations; it's about joining the ranks of the science superheroes who changed the course of history. In conclusion, helping children enjoy science is a whimsical adventure where laughter, curiosity, and a touch of madness converge. So, don your imaginary white coat, grab a magnifying glass, and let the sci-fun-tastic journey begin. After all, in the world of science, the only limit is the bounds of all our imaginations! Sci-Fun-tastic: Turning Science into a Giggle-Inducing Adventure for Kids
