5 Raring2go! WHAT’S ON? 4th Playday 2021 Playday is the national day for play in the United Kingdon and is traditionally held on the first Wednesday in August. This year’s theme is Summer of Play. The Playday 2021 theme recognises the challenges children and young people have faced over the past year and the need to enjoy time for play free of restrictions, with their friends, having fun. Playday encourages families, carers, communities to help children enjoy a summer full of play for all. 9th Afternoon TeaWeek Afternoon Tea Week is a week long celebration of the great British tradition of taking afternoon tea and takes place across the UK during the second full week in August every year. This year it is held on Monday to Sunday, 9-15 August 2021. Tea rooms, 5-star restaurants, hotels, local cafés and eateries of the tea and cakery sort celebrate what is a quintessential British custom. It’s more than just a cup of tea though. Afternoon tea includes cakes, sandwiches, pastries and scones as well! 24th Paralympics 2020 As with the Main Olympics, the Paralympic Games for 2020 begin on 25th August and run through until 5th Sept. The 16th Summer Paralympics will be the second time the Games have been hosted by the Japanese capital – 1964 the other occasion. 537 events from 22 sports will be contested, with badminton and taekwondo the new addi- tions to the programme.
