Little Kickers have four different football classes each tailored to a different age group. However, they have two core beliefs that we take into every session. Firstly, they believe in something we call “Play not Push”. It means teaching football in a fun, pressure-free environment. They want to give children a positive introduction to sport as a whole, not just football, so they’re more likely to stay healthy and active throughout their lives. Secondly, they believe football can be educational. Coached in the right way it can stimulate imagination and aid early development skills such as learning colours and numbers, following instructions and playing as a team. It’s an approach that has bagged them numerous awards and helped them expand globally over the last 16 years. And like all their Kickers, they never stop learning. They’re continually improving and updating classes, based on feedback and input from child health specialists as well as their network of over 2,250 football coaches worldwide. If you’d like to know how Little Kickers started you can read more them here www.littlekickers.co.uk For more details about local classes call 07532180852 Email bmorton@littlekickers. co.uk Raring2go! Raring2go! 6 raring2go.co.uk We live in an increasingly global community where understanding different cultures, building confidence, and communicating creatively are essential skills for young people. Yet these don’t always come naturally. Social media pressures, the lasting effects of lockdowns, and the desire to fit in mean many young people struggle to express themselves authentically. Razzamataz Sheffield supports them by using performing arts to help children and teens find their voice, celebrate individuality, and connect with others. Performing arts develops communication, collaboration, and confidence, which is why Razzamataz offers global experiences such as performing at Disneyland Paris, enrichment trips to New York and Dubai, and international partnerships. These opportunities broaden horizons and show students how creativity can open doors around the world. We also believe in accessible opportunities, including local performances and community events such as performance opportunities in Sheffield and beyond. Whether on a global stage or in a local care home, every student builds resilience, curiosity, and adaptability - qualities valued by future employers. Razzamataz Sheffield provides a nurturing space that supports wellbeing, helping students feel secure, valued, and proud of their progress. Alongside the main school for ages 4 -18, we offer Tots classes to encourage exploration and creativity for children aged 2-3. Raring2go! 8 raring2go.co.uk Lets go fly a kite up to the highest height! Now we don’t want to go too deep, but Kite Flying is great for kids to learn about physics, aerodynamics, weather and ecology (with the broadest of smiles on their faces. It’s also proven that flying a kite is brilliant at helping to develop better hand-eye coordination. Plus it’s the biggest thrill ever when the wind catches it and take it soaring away! Hold a family picnic in the park Picnics are a fun and way to help escape the daily routine of mealtime. An outdoor picnic in the park is a brilliantly simple way to make an everyday event that little bit different. Eating outdoors in a group can also foster better mental health and it’s been shown to improve the habits of fussy eaters! Feeding the ducks This is a great way in which to help your children get a better understanding of nature. Kids love watching a ducks heads bobbing up and down and are amazed at their speed in racing across water to capture that tiny square of bread that has been thrown in. Make a Mothers Day Card! There are plenty of resources available to help children make that extra special mothers day card this year. The look on Mums face when she opens the ‘hand made with love card’ is will be priceless. This is a great activity to do together to really make mum feel special. Puddle Jumping There’s no upper age limit here. For some reason, even adults derive enormous pleasure from putting on their wellies for a good old puddle splashing competition! 1 3 2 4 5 10 fun Spring family

Raring2go! What’s On 9 Plant a spring garden (or just a plant) Capability Brown started somewhere, probably with his parents messing around planting a few things and look where he ended up! Gardening provides family fun time plus teaches valuable lessons about mother nature at work and how things grow. Get outside! Visit a farm and spot the spring babies! There is nothing as enchanting as a childs face as they watch a lamb take its first few faltering steps. Make sure you tell your children what is happening as it is happening and then prepare yourself for a relentless barrage of questions as they witness new life beginning in a very lovely setting... Get on your BIKE! Don’t panic, most kids won’t want to cycle for miles and miles. But they’ll love that feeling of speed, power and the wind rushing by them. Make sure they’re cycle proficient before taking them on public roads. Cycling is brilliant for physical and mental wellbeing! Play Tarzan - Climb a tree Add an element of competitiveness to a tree climb by inviting them to do their best impression of Tarzan! We mean his unique wailing noise and not his agility in jumping from vine to vine or from tree to tree! Physical fun and a sense of achievement. Walk on an empty beach! If you’re lucky enough to live within a relative short drive of a beach, this is one for you.Your kids will marvel at the fact that apart from a dog walker in the distance and possibly a boat off shore, you guys have the entire beach to yourselves. Enjoy it! 7 6 8 9 10 y activities to try!

Because books change lives. Buy a Book. Support a School. Make a Difference. To buy this book visit: www.lovereading4kids.co.uk This book hooks you in from the very start. Fans of comicstyle books will love this and won't want to put it down. Chicken Hill is a place where Ferdy, Gripper and Tink (who aren't chickens), live and they have to try to save the world from UFO's, Zombie Cactus' and escape the clutches of King Frog. Their adventures take them as far as Mexico where they get caught in a battle and find weird things. My favourite story was Attack of the Zombie Cactus because it made me laugh out loud, especially the bit where they put slime on the gnome. The illustrations are great and give great details so the characters almost seem real. I would definitely recommend this book and I can't wait to read the next book. Big thanks to Seth, age 10 for this fantastic review! “ I just couldn't see how it could get any better, but it did. A must for everyone's book collection “ Raring2go! 10 raring2go.co.uk

Raring2go! 16 raring2go.co.uk Hand-Me-Downs & New Beginnings Spring arrives quietly, tucked between what we've outgrown and what we're ready to welcome next. Closets are opened, drawers rediscovered, and familiar pieces find new homes-passed from sibling to sibling, from parent to child, from one season of life to another. A sweater once worn oversized now fitsjust right.Ajacket carries the soft marks of play,of afternoons spent outside,of years well lived. Hand-me-downs tell stories without words. They hold memory in their seams-proof that something loved can be loved again. But spring is also about what's new. Fresh starts layered gently alongside the old. A first pair of grown-up shoes.A dress chosen for twirling.A shirt worn on the first warm day when sleeves are finally optional. These moments mark change, not all at once, but gradually-just like the season itself. Families move forward this way: holding on while letting go. Making room without forgetting where they've been. The beauty is in the balance-honouring what's been passed down while welcoming what's ahead. In these transitions, nothing is wasted. Everything has a place. Spring reminds us that growth doesn't mean starting over-it means building on what already matters.

Raring2go! 17 As parents, it is natural to want to protect our children from distressing events in the news. Seeing them upset can feel overwhelming, and it is understandable to avoid difficult conversations out of concern that talking might led to more anxieties. However, open and supportive discussions can help children feel safe and reassured, reminding them that they do not have to carry their worries alone and that it is okay to ask questions or feel upset. Even when children do not fully understand events, they are often aware that something troubling is happening. Without guidance, they may imagine scenarios that are more frightening or confusing. Discuss your child’s concerns openly rather than saying ‘there’s nothing to worry about’. Feeling worried at times is normal, keep talking and offer reassurance. We might be tempted to ‘‘x’ our children’s worries, but support comes from validating emotions and exploring together how we can understand our worries. Use age-appropriate language. Young children beneet from short, clear explanations, while older children and teenagers may want more detail and discussion. Be mindful of exposure to news and social media, particularly repeated or graphic coverage. Talk about helpers, such as emergency workers, doctors, teachers, community members, as this can offer reassurance that even in difficult situations, adults are working to keep others safe. These discussions do not need to answer every question; they simply help children feel heard, supported, and not alone. Raring2go! 23 Family walks in spring are not only a delightful way to spend time together but also offer many benefits for the body, mind and spirit. From strengthening bonds to improving overall health, these outings celebrate the joy of being together while embracing the beauty of the season. One of the most immediate benefits of springtime family walks is the chance to connect with nature. After months of cold and grey, spring brings the world back to life. Trees unravel their fresh green leaves, flowers bloom in an array of colours and birds fill the air with their songs. Walking through this vibrant landscape is a truly immersive experience, where families can witness the magic of nature renewing. Children in particular, are captivated by these sights and sounds, from spotting frogs in a pond to gazing in wonder at a butterfly’s delicate wings. These walks stimulate curiosity and learning and an appreciation for the outdoors to last a lifetime. Beyond the natural wonders, family walks offer the invaluable gift of connection. In the fast paced world of today, where work, school and technology often dominate, finding quality time together can be challenging. Walking side by side allows families to engage in meaningful conversations, share stories and simply enjoy each other’s company without distractions. It’s a time to laugh out loud, bond and create memories, whether it’s discovering a hidden trail, skipping stones by a stream or enjoying the simple pleasure of walking hand-in-hand. The physical and mental health benefits of walking in spring are undeniable. For adults, walking is a low-impact exercise that improves cardiovascular health, boosts energy and reduces stress. For children, it’s a way to burn off energy and develop healthy habits. Exposure to natural sunlight helps regulate sleep patterns and provides a dose of vitamin D, while the fresh air invigorates the senses. Walking also promotes mindfulness, allowing everyone to slow down, breathe deeply and take in the moment away from screens. Springtime walks offer amazing opportunities for exploration and adventure, even when close to home. Families can wander through parks, explore woodland trails or just take a leisurely stroll around the neighbourhood. Each outing is a chance to discover something new like a blossoming tree, a bird’s nest or a quiet spot which could be perfect for a future picnic! Family walks teach valuable lessons about the importance of balance, connection and just cherishing the simple pleasures in life. Life is filled with screens, schedules and pressure so stepping outside together creates a sense of well-being and gratitude for the natural world. This spring, take the time to embrace family walks as a joyful and beneficial tradition. With spring comes renewal which should remind us of the beauty in slowing down to appreciate our surroundings with loved ones. Whether it’s a quick stroll or a longer adventure, the benefits of walking together in spring are boundless, creating memories that will last a lifetime. The benefits of family walks in Springtime As the chill of winter gives way to the warmth and vibrancy of spring, there’s no better time for families to lace up their walking shoes and head outdoors. Raring2go! 24 raring2go.co.uk Birthday on a budget 1. Keep the Guest List Small Fewer kids = fewer goodie bags, less food, fewer activities. Instead of inviting the whole class, invite: • A few close friends • Cousins only • “As many guests as the child’s age” (e.g., 6 guests for a 6th birthday) 2. Host at a Free Location Avoid paid venues. Great free or nearly free spaces include: • Home or Garden • Public park • Neighbourhood community room • Nature trail (great for scavenger hunts) 3. Choose a Theme You Can DIY Pick themes that are easy to decorate with handmade items or things you already have. Examples: • Movie night. • Dino dig. • Superheroes • Art party • Pokémon • Princess tea party 4. Plan Simple, Low-Cost Games Kids don’t need expensive entertainment. Ideas: • Scavenger hunt • DIY piñata • Sack races • Obstacle course • Musical chairs • Simon Says • Beanbag toss • Treasure hunt 5. Combine Food & Activities A themed food craft is fun • DIY tacos • Build-your-own sundaes • Decorate cupcakes • Make mini pizzas

Raring2go! 25 6. Save on the Cake Instead of buying a Supermarket/bakery cake: • Bake one at home • Use a boxed mix & decorate nicely • Cupcakes instead of a full cake • Make a brownie or sponge cake in one pan 7. Skip Goodie Bags (Or Do Low-Cost Alternatives) Most goody bags get tossed anyway. Alternatives: • One nicer item per child (e.g., a book or colouring pack) • A party activity they take home (art project or slime) • A bar of chocolate/ bag of sweets after the piñata Or skip favours entirely—totally acceptable now. 8. Decorate Smart Avoid themed plates, cups, banners, etc. They add up fast. Instead: • Buy solid-colour partyware • Print your own banners or signs • Use pound store décor • Borrow folding tables/chairs if needed A few well-placed themed items make the whole party feel decorated. 9. Use Digital Invites Skip printed invitations. Free sites include: • Canva • Facebook events • Email or text 10. Shop Strategically The best party deals are usually at: • Supermarkets • Thrift shops • Facebook Marketplace • Ebay You can often buy like-new party décor used cheaply or free. Final Tip Focus on fun and presence, not perfection. Kids remember: • Laughing with friends • Running around • Eating cake • Feeling celebrated They don’t remember: • Fancy balloon arches • Designer character plates

Imaginary play, also called pretend play, is a powerful and natural part of childhood development. During imaginary play, children use objects, actions, and ideas to represent other situations, people, or experiences. A block may become a phone, a stick may become a magic wand, or a child may take on the role of a parent, doctor, superhero, or teacher.Through this type of play, children practice problem-solving, language, creativity, and emotional understanding. Imaginary play gives children a safe space to explore emotions and experiences they may not fully understand yet. A child pretending to care for a “sick” doll, for example, might be processing a recent doctor visit. It also supports social development as children negotiate roles and storylines with peers, learning cooperation and empathy. By inventing scenarios and characters, children strengthen imagination and flexible thinking—skills that benefit both academic learning and everyday life. Organising doesn’t come naturally to all kids though and it can sometimes be a challenge to get started. Whether it’s a bedroom, playroom or study space, here are some tips for guiding children to creating and maintaining an organised environment. 1. Start with a Clean Slate Start by decluttering. Spend some time sorting through toys, clothes and old school books. Get your child involved asking them to make decisions about what they no longer need or use. This can teach valuable lessons about letting go of unused items and focus on what’s important. Donate toys or clothes that are no longer used and throw away anything that is broken or unusable. 2. Make Organisation Fun Make it a fun activity to keep kids motivated. Use colourful bins, baskets or labels to make storage both practical and visually appealing. Allow your child to choose their favorite colours or themes for organising materials. The goal is to make the space not only functional but also inviting, so your child begins to feels excited to keep it tidy. 3. Create Zones for Specific Activities Designate specific areas for different activities. If your child has a homework station, make sure that only school supplies like pencils, paper and books are there. Create a separate space for play and for creative activities. This helps your child to associate each area with a particular task and help them focus better. 4. Use Vertical Space Wisely When organising a room or play area, try and use the vertical space efficiently. Shelves, hooks and wall-mounted organisers can free up floor space, making the room feel less cluttered. Hanging hooks or pegs for coats, backpacks, or hats keeps these items off the floor and within easy reach. Vertical storage solutions can help children learn to store their belongings neatly. 5. Encourage Regular Cleaning Habits Ensuring an organised space stays organised is going to be an ongoing process. Encourage your children to clean up after themselves every day. Set aside time for a quick tidy-up session each day and make it part of their routine. You can even make it a game with a timer and challenge them to pick up all their toys before it goes off. Positive reinforcement, like praise or a reward for consistency can motivate them to stay on top of their organisation. 6. Teach Them the ‘One In, One Out’ Rule To prevent things from piling up, teach your child the "one in, one out" rule. This means that whenever they get a new toy, book or piece of clothing, they need to donate or dispose of an old item. This helps keep their belongings manageable and teaches them responsibility. It’s also a great way to reinforce the importance of not accumulating too many items and maintaining a simple, organised space. 7. Make It a Family Activity Organising a space doesn’t have to be a one man job! Include the whole family especially when it comes to shared spaces. Working together creates a sense of teamwork and makes the process feel less daunting. Plus, when everyone has a role it can help to promote a sense of shared responsibility and pride in the home. Follow these tips and you will help your child to develop organisational skills that will serve them throughout their lives. A tidy, well-organised space not only encourages focus and productivity but also creates a sense of accomplishment and pride in their environment. With a little guidance you can help your child create an organised space that they’ll love. Tips for helping Kids organise their spaces! A well-organised space can make a world of difference for children, helping them feel more focused, calm and ready to take on their daily tasks Designed by Freepik Raring2go! 27

Raring2go! Educatiol 29 While homework can often feel like a chore for kids, there are ways to transform it into a more enjoyable experience. With a bit of creativity and a strategy, homework can become a productive and fun activity that children will look forward to. Create a Fun Homework Space A designated, well-organised homework space is key to setting the right mood for learning. Let your child have some input in designing their workspace, allowing them to personalise it with colours, posters, or items that inspire them. A comfortable chair, good lighting and easy access to supplies make the environment feel more inviting and encourage focus. A pleasant space can motivate your child to dive into their work without distractions. Try it! Turn Homework into a Game Gamifying homework can turn the most mundane task into a fun challenge. For example, transform maths problems into a race against the clock or use a reward system based on achieving certain goals. You can create flashcards for spelling or geography and play memory or matching games with them. Making homework a game helps children view it as something fun and exciting rather than a burden and they’re more likely to stay engaged. Use Technology to Enhance Learning Educational apps and online tools are designed to make learning interactive and fun. Websites like Khan Academy, Prodigy Maths or Duolingo provide engaging ways to practice academic skills through games, quizzes and interactive lessons. Children often enjoy the digital experience as a compliment to their traditional homework. Using technology in a balanced way can make learning feel like a fun. Set Up a Reward System Rewards can provide children with the motivation to stay on task and finish their assignments. Set up a simple reward system, where your child earns points or small rewards for completing specific tasks or assignments. You can give stickers, additional playtime or a small treat once they’ve finished their homework. A reward system not only makes the process more fun but also teaches children the value of completing tasks and working toward goals. Break Tasks into Manageable Bite size Chunks Large tasks can feel overwhelming and can lead to frustration and disengagement. Help your child break their homework into smaller, manageable sections and take breaks in between. Completing one small task at a time gives them a real sense of accomplishment and helps children stay focused without feeling overwhelmed. Make It Social If your child enjoys spending time with friends then why not encourage collaborative learning. Set up a study group session where your child can work alongside their friends or classmates. Virtual study groups can also be effective if doing it it in-person isn’t a possibility. Working together creates a sense of camaraderie and can make homework feel less isolating. By creating an engaging, supportive environment, incorporating games, using tech and rewarding progress, homework can become a fun and exciting activity for children. Making homework enjoyable helps kids stay motivated, reinforces learning, and builds positive associations with education.
