What’s On 10 raring2go.co.uk Tournament of Champions (Sherwood Forest) - 19 & 20 Aug - King Henry VI is proud to announce that on the 19th and 20th of August, Sherwood Forest will be hosting the tournament of champions. Tensions have been rising recently between the Yorkists and the Lancastrians and rumours have been brewing that a civil war may be coming. The tournament of champions will bring together these political powerhouses and unite the nation. Knights from both houses will compete for a chance to win the coveted golden sword in the melee tournament and the legendary golden arrow in the archery tournament. We’ll have the Ferrers Household, the Lord Thomas Stanley Retinue and Sir John Savile’s Household. All day, you will have the opportunity to meet the knights who will be competing and watch them train before the tournament. Who better to cheer for in the tournament than the knights you have got to know. You will also have a chance to learn about the life and times of those who lived during the war of the roses, sharpen your archery skills, become a knight with the fantastic knight school and so much more! Amazelab - Slime Workshop (Cutlery Works) - 22 Aug (10-11am) - Investigate and make three different types of slime to find out which is the ultimate slime recipe. All aimed at 5–11-year-olds. £10 per child. Kids eat free at Cutlery Works. All workshops take place at Cutlery Works, Kelham Island, Sheffield Caphouse Creators (National Coal Mining Museum) - 23-25 Aug (11am-12pm & 2pm-3pm) 7-12 year olds are invited to get creative at our handson club, working with authentic materials to learn practical techniques! Eco Nature Printing - Discover how flowers were used for remembrance, whilst learning the ancient method of using natural dyes from flowers and plants to make a cushion cover. £5 per child. Emergency Service Visits (National Coal Mining Museum) - 25 Aug - Every Sunday throughout the school holidays, meet members of different Emergency Services and learn about their roles. Today is the RNLI & Police Dogs. The Grand Finale - Outlaw Style (Sherwood Forest) - 26-28 Aug - The Sherwood Outlaws bring the festival to a close with their all-action arena show. Will the Sheriff of Nottingham’s troops get the better of the outlaws in combat. Or will Robin and his Merry Band prove too skilled with the blade and the bow? The Medieval Maniax bring back their unique brand of madcap mayhem and Bill Brookman will once again deliver some wonderfully entertaining sillyness at the Major Oak. We’ll have historical reenactment from The Ferrers Household and the College of Chivalry. Jousting Tournament: England v Australia (Royal Armouries Museum) - 2628 Aug - Don’t miss ‘The Smashes’ as England take on Australia in a jousting battle for honour and trophies. Shows at 11am & 2pm. Tickets: £5 - £20 / Pre-book. This August bank holiday weekend the museum’s impressive jousting arena in Leeds will resound to the cheers of crowds and the clash of lances on armour, as knights battle it out in a full-on jousting tournament.
