Raring2go! WHAT’S ON 24 raring2go.co.uk Durham Christmas Festival returns on the rst weekend of December. From Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th, the city will be transformed into a shopper’s paradise with four festive markets and more than 240 stalls offering gifts, treats, festive food and drink and so much more. It’s the North East’s ‘go to’ seasonal shopping event, a chance to tick many items off the Christmas shopping list and pick up the kind of gifts you don’t find on the high street. There are four markets: the Craft & Gift Marquee* on Palace Green, the Regional Producers’ Market in Durham Cathedral Cloisters, a Festive Outdoor Market in Durham Market Place, and Durham Market Hall which will be open each day of the festival. For discounted entry to the Craft & Gift Marquee, purchase in advance via the festival website, www.durhamchristmasfestival.com. This year, the Children’s Lantern Parade returns on Saturday 3rd December, with 200 children carrying lanterns up through the city as the light fades. The parade will leave the Market Place at 2.30pm, following the Chester-le-Street Salvation Army Band, arriving at Durham Cathedral for the St Nicholas Service at 3pm. Lanterns cost £5.50 and must be reserved in advance via the festival website, www.durhamchristmasfestival.com.
