SPRING GARDENING TIPS With the spring weather now approaching it’s never a better time to start enjoying all that your garden has to offer. Insects are not the only ones getting busy in a garden, you and the kids can all get involved tidying up after winter with sweeping and leaf clearing. A really quick way to make the garden look instantly refreshed, especially pots and containers is to dress them with a fresh layer of compost. Start Growing It’ll soon be time to start thinking about sowing your summer vegetables and this is a great way to get the kids involved, learning about how food grows and getting involved in the entire process from seed to ready-to-eat. Tomatoes and lettuce seeds can all be sown indoors really easily, simply fi ll a tray with compost (the part kids normally enjoy the most, playing with soil!) and sow two lines of seed within it. After a few weeks p in a warm sunny spot and when they’re around 8-12cm tall you can transfer the p individual buds to individual small pots and put outside to develop. Broad beans, carrots, brussels sprouts can all be sown indoors together with cabbages and spinach if you want to get really green-fi ngered. Keep them in well-lit p positions so that the seedlings grow into stocky healthy plants.
