February Half Term Learn to Swim at Leyland Leisure Centre Build your child’s confidence in the water while having fun, at our Swim School. They offer affordable lessons, so that every child can learn this essential life skill. Lessons are available at: • Leyland Leisure Centre • Bamber Bridge Leisure Centre • Penwortham Leisure Centre The fully qualified swimming teachers work to the Swim England, ‘Learn to Swim’ Framework. The Programme ‘The Duckling Awards’ are designed to help toddlers enjoy learning to swim with help from their parent or guardians (who are in the water with them). Your child can work towards four different colourful awards, each with a certificate and a badge. The awards promote increased water confidence to help prepare for stage 1 of the Learn to Swim Framework. ‘The Learn to Swim, Stage 1-7 Awards’ are divided into progressive stages. They make up the core, national syllabus of learning to swim for primary school aged children. They are designed to reward your child for their development of the essential aquatic skills they need to be confident, competent and safe in the water. Each of the Learn to Swim Stage 1-7 Awards has a list of clear outcomes that need to be completed in order to gain an award. Stage 8 is the start of the ‘Aquatic Skills’ framework, which then leads on to the Bronze, Silver and Gold Awards. The course continues on to Honours and Rookie Lifeguard training.
