Raring2go! WHATS ON, CLUBS AND CLASSES 14 8.00am: I arrive in the office, put the kettle on, check and reply to any correspondence (emails, post, online messages) before checking my diary for the day ahead. I’m playing for a church service at 10.30am so I’d better practise the hymns and songs for that first. 9.00am: I’ve planned a new song for tonight’s choir rehearsal so the 50 copies of music need numbering and stamping before collating with the other choir music ready to give out tonight. 9.15am: A parent rings to ask how their son is getting on with his piano lessons and asks if I think he might be good enough to do an exam. “Yes!” I say, “Let’s do grade 1 to start with”. A morning in the life of a musician. 9.45am: Gosh, where does the time go? I quickly grab my music and drive to church for the 10.30am service. 10.00am: I arrive at church and check through the service sheet then have a quick chat with the vicar. Before I know it, people are arriving so I need to play some quiet organ music while they sit and wait for the service to start. 11.30am: Back in the office so I put my music away and reflect on the morning. It was a beautiful service and there was an excellent singer performing, what a joy it was to play for her. There are some singing lessons scheduled in this afternoon so I get my books out ready before getting my butties and finishing off getting the choir music ready for tonight. Part 2 to be continued...

Raring2go! WHATS ON, CLUBS AND CLASSES 221 raring2go.co.uk Raring2go! In just under a year, the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games will take place in Paris. To mark this occasion, Get Set (the official youth engagement programme from Team GB and ParalympicsGB), is on a mission to get children aged 5-11 and their families more active with their new virtual challenge – Path to Paris. Schools, community groups or families can set up teams for children to take part – and everyone can join in with the fun alongside them, completely for free! We all know how important it is to get children more active. Research has shown clear links between how active children are and the state of their mental wellbeing, even down to how much they are able to concentrate and their levels of selfesteem. Path to Paris provides a fantastic opportunity to bring positive change into all aspects of children’s lives, all while bringing families, school communities, and wider communities together. The challenge begins in Athens, the birthplace of the Olympic Games. From there, children will embark on a virtual journey around the world in a team bus, completing fun activities as they explore different places on their way to the Paris Games. Every physical activity logged will earn kilometres to power their virtual team bus to its final destination.Whether it’s jumping on the trampoline in the garden, playing wheelchair basketball, attending a weekly judo club, or dancing around the living room as a family, it all counts, so everyone can get involved and get their hearts racing doing something they enjoy. As well as getting active, children will learn about athletes and their sports, the history of the Games, and can also win incredible prizes as they complete the Path to Paris. The prizes range from sports equipment to support them to get and stay active, posters and stickers to help them track their progress, and even exclusive school visits from Olympic and Paralympic athletes! 25 NEW YEAR, NEW YOU Raring2go! raring2go.co.uk After seeing my best friend lose 6 stone in 6 months I immediately started the Lighterlife programme. I was thrilled with the quick results but the unique element of Lighterlife is the CBT. This therapy helped me understand my relationship with food and it was only at that point I realised I used certain types of food when feeling certain emotions. I gave myself excuses to eat because I deserved it or because life was too short not to have those foods I called treats but I suddenly realised life was too short to remain obese or even overweight, I wanted to enjoy life at a healthier weight. Once I understood this I started working on behaviours that changed those habits and over time these became my new normal. I am now lighter than I was 25 years ago thanks to Lighterlife and I want to help you not just lose the weight but keep it off long term. I offer 1:1 appointments either face to face or virtually. I also have a very active, very supportive group of ladies and gents who are on their own Lighterlife journey which you can be a part of. We hold weekly CBT sessions online and I love to work with management solution that will not only help you lose the weight you want but keep it off long term. Contact-Zoe Louise Pearson Tel-07494 424920 Lighterlife Mentor for Preston, Chorley, the Fylde and Kendal.
