Born and raised in Ipswich, Wolsey rose from humble beginnings to become the most powerful man in England, working alongside King Henry VIII. This exhibition will unearth a story of ambition, aspiration, and the ability for anyone to succeed. Featuring archive treasures from Suffolk's collections, in addition to some spectacular borrowed exhibits including Thomas Wolsey’s original Cardinal hat on loan from Christ Church College, Oxford. Exploring different depictions of Thomas Wolsey throughout history, the exhibition will also include an original copy of Shakespeare’s first folio, on loan from Trinity College Cambridge, to coincide with Folio 400 which marks 400 years since the first printed collection of Shakespeare’s work. 19 It's Rocket Science is a discovery and interactive centre based in Claydon and half a mile from Ipswich. It is the only Science centre for families and schools to visit in five Counties and is “Astronomy”themed. 21 Raring2go! WHAT’S ON The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is the latest family show to be created by award-nominated Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds. Audiences can expect to see their favourite characters (Lion, Scarecrow, Munchkins and more) in Mike Aker’s adaptation of Frank L. Baum’s classic story. This adaptation is set in Suffolk (Stowmarket to be precise!) and follows Dorothy and her dog, Toto, to the mystical land of Oz. Complete with original songs by David Lewington and choreography by Sunny Sundeep. This summer show slot has always focused on making high-quality theatre for the local community and supporting young aspiring actors by giving them the opportunities to be part of the young cast. This year, Theatre Royal has introduced a Community Company to play roles within The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, featuring adult members of the local community to offer more opportunities to engage with local theatre and perform on the stage alongside professional actors in a professional production. But for parents, it can be a day of stress, embarrassment, and hilarity. Here are the different types of parents you might encounter on sports day: The Over-Enthusiastic Parent This parent is the loudest, most energetic, and most competitive parent on the field. They cheer on their child like they’re an Olympic athlete, and they’ll do anything to ensure their child wins. They scream, they jump, they high-five strangers, and they’re not afraid to get into a shouting match with another parent. The Embarrassing Parent This parent is the one who shows up in a full-on sports uniform, complete with matching shoes and a water bottle with their child’s face on it. They’re yelling out their child’s name, embarrassing them in front of their friends, and trying to relive their own glory days. The ‘I shouldn’t be here’ Parent This parent has snuck out of work for an hour to attend and is half watching whilst half listening to a Teams call whilst making silent, enthusiastic thumbs-up gestures to their child. The Competitive Parent This parent is the one who takes sports day a little too seriously. They’re constantly checking the score, arguing with the referees, and pushing their child to be the best. They’re not there to have fun; they’re there to win the parents’ race and have been secretly training for weeks. The Reluctant Parent This parent still hasn’t quite recovered from the trauma of tripping over during last year’s egg and spoon race and needing medical attention. They will be hovering near the back wearing office shoes and claiming they ‘forgot it was sports day today!’ hence the unsuitble footwear! The Supportive Parent This parent is the perfect balance of enthusiasm and support. They cheer on their child, but they’re also there to give them a hug when they lose. They’re not worried about winning or losing; they’re just there to enjoy the day with their child. No matter what type of parent you are, sports day is a day to celebrate your child’s accomplishments and have fun. So put on your running shoes, grab your water bottle, and get ready to cheer on your child. Who knows, you might just have a little fun yourself. Which type of sports day parent are you?
