T * A sparkler burns around 15 times hotter than boiling water and five times hotter than cooking oil. That’s why sparklers, as pretty as they are, must never be given to Under 5s. They should also be dropped in a bucket of cold water when finished and left overnight. * Fireworks only burnt orange and white when they were first invented. It wasn’t until the Middle Ages that salts were added to create different colours. * Make sure your pets are safe and secure away from the bangs and wizzes! * Around half of firework-related injuries happen to children, and the majority happen at private or family parties. It’s much safer to attend a public display. * For details of local council run fireworks displays please visit www.www. northumberland.gov.uk Always follow the Firework Code – details available at www.twfire.gov.uk Saturday 11 November – Sunday 7 January Skating at Life Science Centre, Newcastle www.life.org.uk
